Cybersecurity careers are in high demand because of the increased cybersecurity threat. The security officers ensure that the technologies of a company such as systems and networks are safe from cyber-attacks by hackers. The security officers ensure that the organizations that they are working for are secure. Careers in cybersecurity include security system administration careers (Korolov, 2017). The specialization in security systems administration involves several activities that ensure that the overall security of the organization is up to date. The administrator ensures that all the security systems used by the company are working to protect the company. The student specializes in administering security systems to ensure they are functioning properly. The career of security systems administration will be important in the future because companies are getting digitized, hence, they need someone to ensure that the company is secure from attacks (Korolov, 2017). When cybercriminals are successful in their attacks, companies lose key information and even finances that threaten the operations of the company. The threat of cyber-attacks continues to increase, and therefore, security system administration will be in high demand. Security system administrators will help in keeping the companies safe from attacks.
Certification is required for qualified candidates who have been examined as proof that they have the skills needed to do the work to maintain cybersecurity. The system administration certification required by the administrator is the Microsoft certified solution expert certification (Kyle, 2018). The certification is meant to ensure that the candidates have the skills necessary to do their job. The certification helps in identifying rogue administrators who are not qualified for the job. One needs to pass an examination before certification, and there is a body that regulates the conduct of the experts while they are doing their work.
Cybersecurity Analyst
One of the cybersecurity specializations that are relevant now and in the future is cybersecurity analysis (Zhang 2019). In this career, the expert detects threats in an organization and comes up with strategies of preventing them from occurring. The analysts are responsible for protecting the hardware, data, programs as well as networks. To effectively carry out these duties, the expert in this technological career needs to be updated on technology as well as security. Companies depend on cybersecurity analysts for the protection of their digital assets from access from unauthorized personnel. The analysts have the responsibility of ensuring that the business managers and IT administrators are provided with reports used for policy evaluation.
Over the years, there has been an increase in the number of cyber threats. This is what has created the demand for cybersecurity analysts. Organizations want to protect their hardware and data hence the reason why they hire cybersecurity analysts (Western Governors University 2018). The specialization will be important in the future because cyber attackers are increasing. Cybersecurity jobs are expected to increase by 3.5 million by 2021. This is, therefore, a career worth pursuing because its significance is expected to rise. Demand for cybersecurity analysts will continue to increase as long as most countries continue to digitize most of their activities.
In a cybersecurity career, one is expected to have several certifications that show the skills that one possesses (Zhang 2019). One of these certifications is CompTIA Network+ which is a certification that validates the skills that one has in this field. Skills such as managing, troubleshooting networks, designing, and network configurations are validated through this certificate. An analyst should also have Certified Ethical Hacker certification, which allows him/her to use similar tools used by malicious hackers. CWAPT Certified Penetration Tester certification confirms that the analyst has the skills needed in web application penetration testing. The analysts also need to have a certification in reverse engineering, which is critical in validating knowledge in the analysis of malware.
