Introduction

Assuming Overstand's action of copying the CD is a piracy case, he will face an ethical dilemma. Overstand can either go ahead in finding a way to copy the contents of the CD or avoid doing it for ethical reasons. The dilemma starts when Overstand needs to decide on the kind of ramifications his action of copying the CD could create ("Defining an Ethical Dilemma," 2019). Copyright protection is meant to establish the original owner or maker of the CD as the sole party which has a right to produce copies. The original producer ought to benefit from any proceeds of their work. Producing such copies denies the rightful owner the financial benefits accruing from the use of the copies created.

Some possible consequences will result from Overstand going ahead to copy the CDs using any of the available technologies. Should he go ahead to pirate them, he will get profits unethically which he shouldn't be receiving. It is possible the producing company will realize the activity taking place. He will be sued and be charged for fraudulently reaping from where he did not sow. There is a possibility also of the company failing to discover the CD duplication. For such a case, Overstand remains unaffected ("Defining an Ethical Dilemma"). Alternatively, the company may decide to overlook the piracy out of consideration of many factors. If the cost of suing him will be greater than what it will gain, legal action will be inadvisable.

Retarded Chicken argues that copyright protection prevents illegal copying of the CDs. Overstand could be having no intentions whatsoever to do business with the copy(s) he wants to create. Regardless of the source of the CD, having a few copies which not elicit a dramatic uproar from the original producer. Because the owner is not clearly established in the case, it is of benign implications to produce copies. Also, the intent is not revealed; therefore, it may be very justifiable to do it.

Reporting late to a workplace repeatedly is a great offense. Since the boss has the authority to fire me, lying to him will be profitable. I will parade before him the "numerous" duties which have supposedly been holding my hands hitherto. This involves getting my children to the school bus in the mornings and other school arrangements solely. The last born aged four has to be taken to a family's daycare center before reporting to work in the morning. I cannot afford the cost of hiring someone to help in these duties, thus causing me to report late to work.

Utilitarianism is at full play for my defense. The moral theory justifies my lying as long as I will benefit at the end ("Defining an Ethical Dilemma"). My job is at stake here. Anything that can be done within my capacity to keep it is permissible to spare my name from the red pen. Framing the situation to appear that my lateness was with a great cause is needful. The boss has handled such a case before stands a high chance of forgiving my tardiness to work ("What is Business Ethics?", 2019). The end always justifies the means used to do anything profitable. People lie every day for various reasons for their actions. E.g., an encounter with the traffic police may demand to make a few lies to save yourself. Thus, the manager will be moved to forgive me.
