Introduction
Stress is an emotional or physical response by our body or mind that causes an imbalance in a person (Bhargava & Trivedi, 2018). Stressors are the events that ignite stress in a person, and they are found in almost every situation. In the current world, many factors could cause stress to an individual. There are many causes of stress depending on an individual, and what one considers as stress depends on their personality, general outlook in life, social support system, and problem-solving abilities, among other factors. These may include things such as significant life changes, daily hustle and demands, divorce, jail term, marriage, marriage separation, death of a spouse, injury or illness, financial responsibility, retirement, and internal causes.
Significant life changes could include things such as a child leaving home, divorce, or unplanned pregnancy. When an individual is dealing with many life changes at a go, then such an individual is most likely to be stressed. The other major cause of stress in the current society is daily hassles and demands. Whereas the significant life changes are stressors, they are relatively rare. Perhaps, one will not file a divorce case or have a baby every day. However, one may have to argue with their family members daily, battle the traffic, and report to work every day. Such stressors include environmental stressors such as noise, uncomfortable living conditions, and unsafe neighbourhood (Bhargava & Trivedi, 2018). There are also family and relationship stressors which may include problems with friends, family members, and romantic partners, marital disagreements, and caring for a chronically ill family member. Internal stressors are also in existence, and they include things like uncertainty or worries, self-criticism, low self-esteem, unrealistic expectations, and pessimistic attitudes, among others.
Technology and Society
The current society has both positive and negative been affected by technology. Technology affects individuals' communication, learning, and thinking. It has redefined society and shaped how one interacts with others daily.
Mechanical inventions are one technological aspect that has impacted society. Everything was handmade before the invention of machines. The transport sector is an ideal example, whereby before the invention of automobiles, people used to transport things and people using the wagons (Technology: Its Effects on Society, 2016). With the invention of automobiles, society had been affected both positively and negatively. The negative part is that those whose occupation was to make wagons lost their jobs. The positive side is that new job opportunities were created by the automotive for drivers, assemblers, and manufacturers.
The way in which individuals communicate has also been significantly turned by technology. The invention of e-mails, phones, instant messenger, and the internet are all taken for granted by those living in the current age but are the benefits of technology. However, with the improved access to information and communication, some unforeseen glitches and problems accompany these inventions. While making all the information only a click away, the internet has several negative impacts such as hackers easily accessing information belonging to others and misusing them (Technology: Its Effects on Society, 2016). There are also such problems as childhood pornography which promotes immorality among minors in society. Health is also at stake with such issues as obesity increasing due to the long TV hours and adverts of junks to children.
Although there are several benefits brought to society by technology, it has also led to significant negative impacts on our society. Too much of anything is bad, and there is a need to create a balance by controlling the use of technology only for productive and useful purposes. Technology is a good thing that should not be left to destroy our society, but rather to make it a better place.
