A 23-year-old man by the name Dennis is seen to have the interest in joining the police force ever since his childhood. Since his childhood, he has some intrinsic interest and has ever been observed to admire the police work this making him always to try to make his way in the force. Having been brought up by his grandmother, he has gone so many challenges in life. At a very young age, he lost all his parent through a car crash that he too was involved but made it survive. This issue has been affecting him psychologically and transforming his way of life. This paper is a brief case study concerning Dennis personality as per the Carl Rogers theory.
The fact that he has been brought up from a humble background has made him miss so many opportunities in life. Despite all the challenges he has been through in his life he is still seen to be very enduring and determined so much in joining the police force (Rogers, 2015). He always thought to himself that one day in life all his heart desires would come true and he was not willing to lose hope anytime soon in life. His issues were at some point becoming the most significant challenge and he genuinely needed some counseling to help him was away some of the memories that he had. He always seeks assistance from his closest friends who all the time encouraged him not to lose hope in what he perceived to be in future.
One of his relatives was serving in the police at the time Dennis was young about the age of five to six years. He then tried to get close to him, but this was almost impossible since he was always busy in his work. Sometime later he was unable to move on with his studies since his grandmother was not financially capable of paying for his school fees anymore. This now became the hardest part of his life for he was seeing now for sure his dreams were not at any time being real in any way. Soon after spending much of his time out of school he had the luck of getting a scholarship for he was a smart student in class work. This was like a stepping stone in his life. He then put good use of this chance later joining the police and currently working with the highest rank of the police as an inspector.
According to the theory by Carl Rogers who was a famous humanistic psychologist who always said that every person needed a good accommodative environment as they grew. We can relate this and find that the situation one is in matters so much in what kind of dreams people have and their thoughts about their goals in life (Nelson, Cushion, Potrac, & Groom, 2014). He also says that without a clear relation with people then personality will not develop well as expected and people will have challenges regarding their personality in life. He also argues that for one to have the achievement on most of their goals in life, then they should begin with simple desires and wishes. This can be seen in the kind of life that Dennis has lived with his most significant willingness to be a policeman in life. Despite so many challenges along his dream path, we find that he soon achieves his big aspirations in life and this makes him what he always wanted to be all his life.
