Introduction
The primary source of my interest in the California courts is their current court system as well as the manner in which their respective judges handle the court cases. In California, courts are divided into two main systems. These systems include the state and the federal systems. Within the state system, there are only two types of courts, the trial, and the appellate courts. The exciting part of the trial court is that a judge in some cases a jury hears evidence testimonies accompanied by their related evidence and give appropriate decisions regarding the testimonies through the application of the law to the case facts (Jackson, 34). The trial court plays a direct role in handling all civil cases as well as the criminal cases. Also, the works on the appeals of small business claims cases and the appeals of the misdemeanor cases
In California, the trial courts are also referred to as the superior courts, and there are about 58 courts in total distributed to each county. The distribution of the courts in every county helps the state in handling major cases occurring within the county level. For the court of appellate, there are only two types that are the California Supreme Court and the courts of appeal. Within the state, there is only one Supreme Court and six other courts of appeal (Jackson, 40).
Concerning the working of the California law courts, there several working principles in every court the make the courts enjoyable to the judges. Every court in the state has been given the mandate to handle various types of cases. For instance, the trial court has been set to hear civil cases and criminal cases. In such a situation the civil cases are those cases where a private company or citizen sues one another in the court. These types of cases are not categorized under the breaking of criminal law. Different types of cases exist in the civil court which includes the family law cases, the probate cases which are majorly about taking the state's citizens as well as their, e.g. wills among other types of cases. In the trial courts unlike in the criminal cases, there is no right to the appointment of lawyers by the court in most of the civil cases (Fucile, 13). Therefore when one cannot afford a lawyer and cannot a legal aid lawyer, then you have to present yourself. The relevant commissioners and judges decide some of the small civil cases.
Besides, the other interesting bit of the courts working is that most of the civil cases are decided by judge or jury which will directly determine which side will win based on the standard called "preponderance of the evidence." For the criminal case, the state brings a lawsuit against one who might have broken a criminal law. The filing of this kind of cases is done by the district attorneys who are the representative of the state.
Participation in the judicial law will be a basic foundation to get some of the essential benefits. The benefits that I can achieve include acquiring of skills and experience that will help me throughout my law school experience, my career, and my everyday life. Regarding the experience, I will get acquainted with the way of handling various types of cases and how to co-exist with the parties in the judicial system. Also, the judicial council of California will want one to have a cost-effective as well as comprehensive medical and the best leave and retirement benefits. The courts offer a rewarding career accompanied by a meaningful work-life balance. Besides the employees are at liberty of choosing their package of benefits that will meet their individual needs.
