Introduction
Artificial intelligence is an area of information technology (IT) that emphasizes the creation of intelligent machines that behave, work, and also react just like humans (Bresnick, 2018). Artificial intelligence is rapidly predominant in almost all sectors, including healthcare, which is a very vital sector. As Artificial intelligence grows more sophisticated, the voices warning against its drawbacks keep growing louder. AI is finding its way rapidly into mainstream business use cases with some organizations already having or planning to have business models that are wholly dependent on artificial intelligence technology. As more systems, including intelligence and military systems, become artificial intelligence-enabled, becoming aware of how enemies might exploit them becomes very vital. Cybercriminals are proficient in adopting any innovations that give them an edge over cybersecurity defenses. This paper will examine and discuss the risks of artificial intelligence to security.
Risks
Artificial Intelligence Terrorism
As much as artificial intelligence will be inevitable shortly. It is prone to helping terrorists in perfuming their attacks. It is a significant challenge that any country is likely to face with the adoption of artificial intelligence. Terrorist agencies could use autonomous vehicles to deliver and explode or either come up with guns that track people's movement and fire according to the pre-programmed instructions (Maar, 2018). With the government shying away from using the killer robots by trying to be ethical and avoiding unnecessary loss of life, terrorists strand to use access and use the killer robots for terror attacks, which will have adverse effects and massive loss of life.
Autonomous Weapons
In future Artificial intelligence poses a significant threat due to the development of killer robots. These are military robots that are meant to search their targets and aim autonomously following the pre-programmed instructions (Maar, 2018). That means that humans will not probably fight future wars. The significant risks with autonomous weapons are that they may go rogue and kill massive innocent people. The development of these killer robots by government or people that don't care about human life hence leading to massive destruction of human life.
It is inevitable; thus, it will eventually take all the jobs that were once performed by humans.
Data Insecurity
Everyone deserves privacy as a human right. However, with the inevitable growth and adoption of artificial intelligence across all sectors, loss of privacy is bound to happen. The data gathering abilities of artificial intelligence mean it can easily create a timeline of your day to day activities through the access of your data in the networking sites (Duursma, 2020). It means it will be easy to monitor human behaviors such as playing loud music and many video games, which might lead to a travel ban.
Additionally, companies that have or will adopt AI are likely to turn into greedy Gus when it comes to people's data, which might end up being used for other reasons rather than the intended.
Cyber Security Threat
Artificial intelligence systems are have stood out as smarter and, before long, can distribute Viruses such as malware and ransomware at a higher speed and on a massive scale. It will make it easier to hack systems, hack encryption, and security. Currently, a self-driving car can be easily hacked (Duursma, 2020). Online banking systems are also at a higher risk of getting hacked easily, making it a significant threat. Attackers of varying notches of sophistication all invest their energy in targeting opportunities that carry the expectation of a higher return on investment. Concerning this, artificial intelligence can accelerate the volume of attacks while helping the attackers to preserve their anonymity and distance from the victims, thus making the investigations vague. It is also worth noting that cybercriminals use artificial intelligence to find new targets. It, therefore, results in more attacks against the government and companies (Elgan,2020).
Superintelligence
AI systems are developing, every day and thus, as they become more and more powerful, it might become super-intelligent, which might be a security and safety threat in the future. It means AI will be superior to human performance in nearly all realms. It could be very transformative economically, socially, and politically but extremely catastrophic in terms of s4ecurity and safety. By AI being super-intelligent, it would be a military and economic asset by even giving the government a decisive strategic advantage (Elgan, 2020). However, if it lands in the wrong hands, it might be used in harmful ways, which eventually would result in adverse effects.
Conclusion
Unless institutions learn to prepare for and avoid possible risks, then artificial intelligence might be the worst technology in the history of our civilization. Despite its potential risks, artificial intelligence is used for many good causes, such as helping hospitals in medical diagnosis and ways of curing cancer as well as making cars safer. Therefore, artificial intelligence is inevitable, and it is crucial we start to debate on the best ways for AI to develop positively while cutting off the chances of its destructive nature.
