Introduction
An ethical dilemma is a complex state of mind that individuals find themselves while trying to make an adverse decision. These decisions involve moral actions and imperatives in which the choice to obey one alternative leads to the transgression of the other. On the other hand, ethical lapses refer to the deviation from the expected ethical standards by the people. Before responding to the boss' request on giving information about misconduct by my colleagues, I would consider some of the essential issues that could affect my relationship with the fellow workers. Among these issues include mistrust, betrayal, and untrustworthiness.
Question 1
a.) Keeping quiet about an environmental hazard in the company is not ethical. Communication is a very vital tool for the success of every business organization. It is a process that allows the staff members to transfer meaningful information necessitating understanding in the workplace. Therefore, in the case of identifying an environmental hazard in the firm, ethics requires the employee to pass this information to create awareness for safety measures.
b.) Overselling the benefits of instant selling to the mangers is unethical conduct in the company. Although this method of sales is the company's top success, it has moral expectations that the managers should have a strong understanding of how it works. Therefore, it becomes an efficient process in the business. Hence, there should be an alternative method of helping the managers to make the right choices in the firm.
c.) It is ethical to inform an associate and friend to concentrate on the responsibilities since it will help her to protect the job. The employees need to have some degree of empathy, enabling them to become positive forces in other people's life. Telling the colleague to take her responsibilities seriously will save her from the termination of her job by the employers.
d.) A recommendation to purchase unnecessary equipment to utilize the allocated funds, is not an ethical practice. Acquisition of funds in an organization is a quite challenging task that requires more conservation to manage the available resources. Therefore, the employees should consider saving costs for the firm by communicating with the relevant authority to understand how best they can utilize the unused money in their department.
Question 2
Cisco has a code of business conduct that stipulates several aspects describing how it expects the employees to conduct themselves. These prescriptions include sharing the concerns by the workers, responsible use of resources, and avoiding conflicting interests. As an employee of Cisco, failure to share essential care in the business regarding possible loss is a violation of its ethics. Since it expects all the workers to open up and speak about the issues concerning the firm, also, to violate Cisco's ethics, I would use the resources irresponsibly. For instance, I will fail to put into the proper use of the funds while purchasing new equipment. Lastly, I would ensure that I present opposing views in every discussion leading to decision making. I will disagree with the opinion of the majority and create a conflicting interest in Cisco in a bid to discourage its ethical practices.
Cisco provides several opportunities that allow the employees to report cases of ethical misconduct. Members of staff upon the suspicious identification activity can utilize three opportunities to inform the administration. These include talking compliance, using the reporting lines to report the cases and lastly strict adherence to the culture of awareness of ethical practices in Cisco.
