Michelle, alumni to the St. Catherine University, the class of 2016 narrates her life story. Michelle was born in Missouri, Fort Leonardwood by her two parents, who were then living there. Michelle was born in 1994 when his father was working in the army. Before she was born, her father and mother come from Minnesota from they got married and before moving to Fort Lenardwood. Her father was doing in the army at Missouri where he was stationed. A year and a half after Michelle was born her brother, Michael was born in the year 1995. Both were born in the army base where they later ended up moving to Germany where their dad was moved to. Michael does not remember what happens because he was at the age of two years when they moved overseas for three years. This paper analysis the themes leaned from Michelle's life.
The theme of travel, leaning, and change comes out in this context. Having been born in Missouri, Michelle and Michael travel with their parents to German where he is stationed in the army. Also, at the age of two, Michelle moves overseas where she spends 3years, although she can't remember it. The theme of change comes out clearly because she moves again from abroad and goes back to the United States, where she starts her Kindergarten. She majored in the American Sign Language interpretation. She knows well that Minnesota was the home however she grew up in Lakeville, a town which was not too far from the cities.
The theme of family and love started from the marriage of her dad and mum before they moved to Missouri. Later the family grows into four with Michelle and Michael and lives in love despite living in different areas. The parents live in Lakeville after their father retired from the army, and both parents got jobs in Minnesota where they lived for 18years. In Lakeville, there are few sidewalks, no busing or transit systems. In the school, she went to while in Lakeville there were few colour people and her eyes to the community weren't tight knitted. The theme of racism and colour comes as she says there were few colour people in the school. This implied that purely the school was made up of whites and few blacks.
Michelle portrays the theme of learning, socialization, goals and dreams. Her k-12 education phase was at Lakeville School District. From the beginning, she was a hardworking ambitious and decisive in her life. She was very much involved in the sports which were her main channel of socialization while in high school. She knew very many people in the field of sports, which enabled her to be the best in practices. She knew her friend because they were in the same classes and the same school bus. Michelle life on the campus was not the same because for the first two years she lives in the school grounds. She feels she did not have enough experience and became more ambitious to know what is outside campus.
At this time, her mother and her birth name narrowed to two names Leah and Marie. Her father picks Michelle-Lynne and goes for a riding a tricycle on the sidewalk. Michelle has her best friend, Casey, whom she describes as the most influential person from Childhood. Casey is a year older than Michelle. Courage and gentleness come out when Michelle describes, their first day in high school. It was not a terrifying moment although Michelle's friends were a year or two older because of Casey. Michelle works two years of interpretation for deaf people which showed her passion for her career. She is very hardworking because she believes the job would pay her well. She tries to compare her best moments when she works in a college because she understands both professors and students while she does not experience bad moments but say she was interpretation for rude people. She is patients because she wants to cope with the problem, which she thinks was not worthy of her job.
Conclusion
In conclusion, the family of four live together, and there are significant relationships between them. The parents never had problems but supported her dreams. Besides, they also pushed Michelle out of her comfort zone. Her dad wanted Michelle to attain the best that life could offer. Therefore, she discouraged her from trying new things such as sports. Michelle was very obeying, and she was not really in games anymore. Overall, there are many things to learn from this interview. First, it makes me reflect on my own life as I compare to that of Michelle. Secondly, it makes me think about my career and how good my future would be. Thirdly and most importantly, it gives me the courage to choose my career wisely because it is the stepping stone towards achieving the next level of my life. Lastly, I learned that life is fair at sometimes because it will give you opportunities and challenges at the same time. Your parents and friends can advise you, but the final decision is yours.
