In a military organization, all the army officers are grouped into various categories to ensure a smooth chain of command. The delegation of roles helps ensure that everyone is well-familiarized with the duties they are supposed to do. Therefore, the organization can undertake its daily operations without role conflicts. One of the significant ranks in a military organization is the sergeant (Little 2017). They are non-commissioned officers who are above the rank of a corporal and immediately below the lieutenant. In most cases, sergeants are entitled to a squad or a section that they command.
As a sergeant, I am expected to perform various roles and apply my leadership skills to manage my squad. One of the significant roles entitled to military sergeants is monitoring and managing enlisted actions and boards. Under this role, I am supposed to publish promotion instructions for soldiers being promoted to the rank of SGT and SSG. Sergeants are entitled to the establishment of S3 objectives and the facilitation of mission accomplishment. It requires dedication and teamwork to work together with my team (Little 2017). The management of various tasks and the delegation of responsibilities based on the organization's communication are under the roles of sergeants.
The military organization has assigned me to provide doctrinal and technical advice to the SE and the commander. An additional role of sergeants is to ensure that all the equipment assigned is maintained and functional to facilitate the completion of all combats. The sergeant is responsible for planning, equipment supply, and mission execution (Little 2017). Before a mission is initiated, sergeants are expected to discuss with their squad all the operations that will be conducted during the mission execution.
Military operations need to be conducted tactically to ensure the successful completion of a mission. Therefore, various skills are embedded in sergeant to help them perform their duties robustly and professionally. The ranking is mostly based on the percentage of sergeant resumes they are expressed in. They required military personnel skills that cover cardiac life support, primary medical care, and emergencies. The skills are applicable during the field operations. A high level of attention is another skill categorized under military personnel skills (Little 2017). Supervision military skills help a sergeant undertake effective and viable supervision and risk maintenance following the army regulation protocols.
Military operations are risky and, to some extent, lead to loss of life. Therefore, sergeants should ensure they select their squads following robust criteria to boost their team playing roles. The team selection process should be based on mutual trust, where all individuals can rely on each other during the mission. They should take care of each other and maintain unity and cohesion to accomplish their mission.
Squad training should be conducted regularly to ensure the squads are fit for any mission assigned to them. Every committed sergeant should train the squad they are assigned to regularly on new tactical skills and self-awareness to increase their competency. The training process also increases the cohesion between the team members. Sergeants should direct their teams on how to adhere to safety procedures and employ the risk management matrix during the emplacement construction and handling of ammunition and explosives (Little 2017).
All military roles are essential in defending nations from attacks. The ranks should be distributed based on an individual's qualifications to facilitate a better performance of the Department of Defence. Seargents should deploy their team player, leadership, and managerial skills to ensure their squads are competent to perform various assigned missions. The government should also ensure that the Department of Defence is well-equipped with the necessary skills, facilities, and equipment to protect the welfare of the citizens. All military personnel should execute their roles with great determination and passion for facilitating equal service distribution to all citizens.
