The process of making art can be quite difficult because drawings are in most cases left unfinished since people do art as if it is not their own work (Bayles and Orland 1). In addition to the fear as a result of the various questions that linger in the minds of many artists, there are a number of assumptions that have contributed to the increased fear among the artists. One of such assumptions includes the conventional wisdom that while craft can be taught, art remains one of the magical talents that can be bestowed upon someone by God in the form of a talent (Bayles and Orland 3). This is not true as in becoming an artist, one has to learn about accepting themselves so as to make one's work personal and distinctive. Another assumption that has continued to instill fear among artists is the fact that art is made by ordinary people which is not true as artwork involves overcoming things in life to get an opportunity to get a thing done in the right way (Bayles and Orland 3). This aspect requires much dedication that cannot be achieved by ordinary people.

To make an art, one will need to reflect on the fate of those artists who preceded them and quit. Based on the fact that it is hard to distinguish those artists that made it in the field and those that quit, all artists are bound to the fear of human troubles that despite being in the position to be overcome, they are also capable of being fatal to the art-making process. Therefore, the artists that make it through the art field are those that have learned how not to quit.

However, while many artists have many reasons as to why to quit, they always wait for the ideal moments for them to quit. In most instances, artists quit when they convince themselves of the fear that their next effort to survive in the industry is already doomed to fail as well as when they lack an ideal destination for their works (Bayles and Orland 9). It is clear that almost all artists encounter the moments of fear that their next work is likely to fail thus recurring the healthy part of art making cycle because in many cases one focuses on a new idea in his or her work, try it out, run with it for some time, reach a point of diminishing returns and finally decide on whether to pursue the idea or quit.

In the art-making cycle, fears are known to occur in the various stages of making the art. For instance, when one looks ahead in the vision and execution stage, fears may arise if one is prone to disaster, he or she might even find himself stranded at the middle of a project that is not yet over due to the fear of lack of the ability to finish it and no one will understand if such happens (Bayles and Orland 14). Uncertainty is another cause of fear in art making since the various conditions needed to develop an art are not always perfect and also one may lack the adequate knowledge needed to accomplish his or her work. Therefore, it is important for new artists, as well as the veteran one's to understand that uncertainty as well as fears when undertaking a task, are common in any activity carried out by a human being. With such understanding, the artists will be in a position to bear the challenges and fears so as to sail through the art-making industry without quitting.
