The stylistic device of dialogue has been greatly amplified in the play, 'Magic 8 Ball,' by Kimberly Pau. The first role it has played is that it has made the literature to qualify as a play since it shows the direct speech coming from the characters (the ball, Elizabeth and Melissa). This is a typical feature of almost all play such as; The Caucasian Chalk Circle by Bertolt Brecht. Dialogue presents different ideas as long as the play is not read at face value. It could be pointing out a social evil such as; immorality or prejudice, for example.

The Instance where the two girls talk about whether their Boyfriends; Bradley and James enjoy sex with each other more than with them present two issues; Immorality(sex before marriage) and Homosexuality. The dialogue presents the character traits of Melissa and Elizabeth as; vulgar or immoral. It also shows that Children more often than not are a reflection of their parental upbringing.

The dialogue presents behaviour that has gone beyond the bounds of conventional morality and ethics; sex before marriage. Sex is a precious gift from God, according to the excellent book, The Holy Bible. The gift of sex should thus only be 'unwrapped' within a marriage union. There is a reason why this is so. Because if people practised restraint, it would many a soul and humankind from many troubles.

Talking about; Unplanned Pregnancies, HIV/AIDS, STIs (Sexually Transmitted Infections) etc. But then again, everyone has freedom of thought and exploration of one's sexuality has never been a crime in most countries. Most, because some countries have made a step towards enforcing some morality among their citizens. For example; Indonesia is in the process of passing a penal code that makes sex outside marriage a crime.

As for Homosexuality, Society has always placed massive prejudice on people that ascribe to such unusual sexual orientations. Often maligned and discriminated against and labelled; 'abnormal' or 'perverted'. The truth is that sexual orientation is a personal choice. Thus no one should be judged or sidelined for it. It is a surprise that as Humankind, we have managed to, 'Split the Atom but not our Prejudice' against others of our kind.

Elizabeth asks Magic 8 Ball whether she and Bradley (boyfriend) will grow old and pass away together. This conversation reflects a Theme of Hope in Elizabeth. Hope that what she looks forward to in the future will come to pass. It also presents the theme of Marriage and Love. Because love is obviously a basic ingredient for a marriage union to last that long, other than; compatibility. Most young people even so think that marriage is all roses and orchids when the truth is growing old together does not play out for most married couples. Someone ought to sit down and have, of course a serious Dialogue with young people on the solemnity of marriage.

Conclusion

A great thinker said that one might read a 500-page book but only get two or three main concepts out of it. But these are exactly the ones needed to accomplish intentions or goals. In the same way, Dialogue as a stylistic device other than being a source of entertainment presents a few but significant issues in society that need to be addressed. It is no surprise that they are a reiteration of previous artists only using different words and style of delivery.
