Over the years, the American voting system has been corrupted by divisive politics of red and blue states, and the American voters are trapped in a narrow choice based on the state that you live in. However, in the next election, this should not be the case as our democracy has been threatened by the current policies of the Republican Party as demonstrated by President Donald Trump, and sanity needs to be restored by voting in the American ideals as manifested by the Democratic Party.

The Democratic Party is the oldest American political party having been founded by Thomas Jefferson and James Madison as Democratic-Republican Party. It later rebranded to the modern-day Democratic Party in 1828 (Wagner, Bruce, & Fish, 2007). On the other hand, the Republican Party was founded in 1854 as a coalition to oppose the extension of slavery into western territories. Since its formation, the Democratic Party has embraced the ideals of equality on all fronts despite. In the recent years, the Democratic Party has advocated for the rights of the poor and the middle-class workers as oppressed to the Republican Party which has only advanced the interests of the rich and rigged the entire electro system as clearly demonstrated by President Trump who took office in 2017.

There are those who claim that the Democratic Party is responsible for the many challenges experienced in America. Especially when they revisit history and find out that the southern Democrats defended slavery and the Jim Crow rules, and it would take the efforts of President Abraham Lincoln to end it (Rutland, 1996). Nonetheless, despite this being true, the Democratic Party has made enormous steps to promote equal protection under the law and to ensure that the founding creed of all people being equal in the eyes of God and Men is upheld.

As I conclude, I urge you to vote for the Democratic Party in the next election because the party stands for what is right in America. Through the republic party, its leaders have rejected science, the facts about climate change, isolated America from the world and diminished the role that America plays in the preservation of global peace and security. These are extraordinary times when people must look beyond political parties and rise to defend our democracy by blocking the abuse of power.
