Advancement in technology has allowed teenagers to increase interactions via social media. Social media has simplified the way teenagers participate in games behind the camera, make and meet new friends; teenagers perform all these activities in the comfort of their homes (Dabarov, 2019). The social network has shifted from offline networks to online, making teenagers stay in touch hence no need for a physical relationship. This paper discusses how social media has improved teenagers' lives.
In the present day, teenagers have become more addicted to their phones and computers, all in the name of social media. All this time spent on social media has dramatically improved on how they interact with other people since they make more friends, thus avoiding being lonely. Loneliness is known to cause depression, and as the young generation is subjected to mental illnesses at a very tender age (Gordon, 2016). Social media has cut costs associated with traveling to meet new people since, at a click of a button, they interact freely; this has improved the social relationship.
Social media, on the other hand, has damaged teenagers' life, as many of them neglect their daily chores due to too much spent online. A large number of teenagers find themselves in a fix to afford bundles or an affordable internet connection, especially those from a poor background, resulting in an increased number in theft (Dabarov, 2019. Additionally, teenagers who spend more time on social media are prone to be exposed to too much context that they ought not to be viewing, such as pornography and adverts promoting alcoholism, this leads to fornication and early pregnancy rate increasing.
Through constant use of technology, teenagers have developed ways to share the concerns that are disturbing them; this has created a touching relationship in social media. Many teenagers have extended these relationships to stronger bonds resulting in marriages in the future. Young teens should embrace social media as it expands their knowledge watching educative videos such as; cooking skills, home-making décor, among others(Gordon, 2016). Trough trying on these skills, young people can make an extra coin and cater to their needs without asking their guardians.
Conclusion
Social media is a tool where teens start movements to build awareness for an issue; this has made the teenagers realize that despite being so distant from each other, they can assist others. The voices of teenagers are heard frequently through videos from YouTube. They can sensitize on issues such as preserving the forest or provide educational materials to the less fortunate.
