Smart borders consist of quantum border security solutions that leverage the energy that vehicles, footsteps, digging, and gunshots exact on the earth. Quantum uses unattended surveillance sensors that have proven to be useful in long-range ultralight detection. Smart borders use seismic acoustic detection and ranging and Border Tunneling Detection Technology Capability for subsurface monitoring (Border surveillance technology, 2018). Smart borders have helped address the issue of situational awareness to ensure that boundaries are secured. Their detection capability is high as they use non-line-of -site detection that allows people crossing the border to be detected before they are even seen or heard. Smart borders offer defense-in-depth capability. They also lower the expense of 24/7 surveillance of remote borders as they increase operator efficiency improves the validity of alerts. It also reduces false alarms. Smart boundaries also allow earlier detections that increase the possibility of discouragement to prevent crossings before they happen. The seismic acoustic detection and ranging border tunneling detection technology has proven to be useful as it detects subsurface activities and can classify the source of energy as well (Border surveillance technology, 2018).
Intellectual property theft involves stealing other people's inventions, ideas, and creative expressions, also known as intellectual property (FBI, 2017). The growth of digital technology and the sharing of internet files has led to more cases of intellectual property theft. This type of robbery most occurs overseas where laws are lax, and enforcement is hard. Intellectual theft mainly focuses on trade secrets and product infringement. It can be threatening to the economy of a country. In the USA, intellectual property theft robs businesses billions of dollars and costs the country tax revenues and jobs.
Border security has a significant impact on the economy of a country or region. Governments around the world are now working towards creating smart borders as they have noticed that it would be impossible to have the fast-economic progress in a culture where custom procedures are burdensome and ineffective. There has been a lot of movement of people and goods in recent years leading to the need for reforming border management. Governments have to regulate how people and goods are moving more efficiently and effectively. Due to this, governments are facing the challenge of how to protect their borders while still allowing free movement of people and goods. Smart borders are a term used to describe a wide range of national security, social-political functions, economics, and cost-effective demarcations (Border surveillance technology, 2018). The growth in international safety and economic environment has led to the need for increased intelligence cooperation. With improved border security, the economy of a nation is likely to excel as there are few threats to national security.
