In progress towards achieving the revised goal, I was able to accomplish various tasks related to behavioural change. First, I changed the activities performed during leisure time. Have free time to relax the mind is essential for my psychological and physical growth. I started to listen to music when I am under psychological stress. Music comforts the soul and relaxes the mind; therefore, achieving mental stability. Feedback enabled me to reflect on the appropriate and attainable goals based on my abilities. Also, academic performances and depict the nature of my psychological stability because education learning processes depends on cognitive understanding.

Why were you able/not able to be successful (or more successful)?

I was successful in changing my behaviour due to the ability to set a practical goal that improved my psychological health. My success was also attributed to the application of the Transtheoretical model in developing the goal-setting project. The Transtheoretical model contains various stages of change that helped me to identify and integrate the appropriate and robust processes and principles. The principles of change related to theoretical frameworks that help in ensuring behaviour change progress towards the desired goal (Gurung, 2019). The integration of the policies and guidelines from the theoretical approach and research also contributed to my behaviour change success.

During my behaviour change project, I started at the contemplation stage. In this stage, I was getting ready to achieve behaviour change within a short period. I was at this stage because I was aware of the benefits of changing my behaviour. I was not aware of the limitations and consequences related to my behaviour change. During my previous stage, I had been thinking of implementing the behaviour change project for nearly six months. However, I was not fully aware of the need to change my behaviour at this point. I had been learning so much about healthy behaviour about change in mood swings hence was occasionally preoccupied with thoughts about the pros of changing my behaviour and felt emotions about the effects of my negative mood swings on others. This stage prepared me to enter the contemplation stage in which I decided to start my behaviour change project.

During the contemplation stage, I was much fascinated with the idea of starting the behaviour change project within the next six months. Therefore, at this time, I was fully aware of the numerous pros of changing my behaviour as well as the cons that are attributed to the change. During this period, the disadvantages of the behaviour change were almost equal to the pros of changing, which almost put me off from taking any action towards my goals. During this period I continuously thought about the kind of person that I would become if I changed my moods pattern and how I would be able to learn new mood patterns from the people who behave in healthy ways. Finally, I was able to use help from people around me, which encouraged me to work at reducing the cons of changing my behaviour hence embarking on the project. Currently, I am at the action stage, whereby I have changed my behaviour within the last six months; therefore, I need to work harder to keep moving forward. I have devised numerous ways on how to strengthen my commitments to change as well as fighting the urges to slip back through avoiding people and situations that tempt me to have unfavourable mood swings.

According to research activities conducted by the model developers, the advantages and disadvantages of changing behaviour are equal (Gurung, 2019). From my initial starting point, which is the contemplation stage, I faced numerous challenges that hindered me from progressing to my current stage. To apply the behaviour change approach to my project of changing in mood swings, the most difficult that I faced utilizing the model is the fact that this method of behaviour change depends on the readiness of an individual to take initial actions in implementing the change.

Personally, although I thought I was ready to change, there are a few things that restricted my success in the initial stages such as the lack of motivation to continue with my daily routine that required a lot of sacrifices and determination. There are complex relationships which I realized are between my behaviour and various environmental factors that also limited my success. The behaviour change response depended on many conditions that are beyond my control, such as my tight schedule (Gurung, 2019). However, I was able to overcome these challenges hence moving to my current stage, which is an indication of the success of my behaviour change project.

Will you continue this project or not? Briefly describe why or why not, and what you got out of the project

The behaviour change project has been of great help in change and management of my mood swings. Since I started the project, there have been numerous visible steps and positive changes that are evident on my mood swings since not all mood swings are bipolar and most of them can be avoided (Kowatch, 2011). As stated above, I have been able to move to the action stage whereby I have been able to change my behaviour as now I can control my mood swings, and I have the desire to keep moving ahead. Therefore, I am determined to continue with the behaviour change project since the remaining part will enable me to learn how to strengthen my commitments to change as well as ensure that I can fight all the urges to slip back. Through the project, I have been able to acquire healthy habits, which involve the capability to control my moods, which have helped me relate well with others. This has helped me strengthen my relationships; hence, I need to continue with the project so that I can attain the ultimate stage; therefore, being able to control my mood swings permanently. Continuing with this project will enable me to learn various techniques that will ensure that I keep up my commitments such as substituting multiple activities related to my unhealthy behaviour with positive ones, rewarding myself and also taking steps towards permanent change and avoiding people and situations that trigger negative mood swings.
