Leadership is one of the essential issues that affect the welfare of people. In history, various highlights show the significance that leadership has on the life that people live. When people have sound leadership in place, they enjoy their life, because of the policies that are developed. However, in the absence of leadership, the people pay the price of poor systems. Based on the documents read, there is the highlight of multiple activities which are based on leadership at that. Therefore, it is right to state that the welfare of society is dependent on its leadership and its priorities to serve the people. That is evident from the way European empires transformed Atlantic communities.
First, concerning the letter from Mvemba a Zinga, it is evident that the kingdoms were facing inconveniences, which were not being adequately addressed by their leaders. That led to the suffering of the people. The role of the leadership was to make sure that the people were free from any inconveniences. However, the leaders did not address the plight of the people in the kingdoms. That led to Mvemba a Zinga drafting the letter. Furthermore, according to The "Crimes of Christopher Columbus," it is evident that there was a decline in the population of Indians (D'Souza 5). That was because of the arrival of the whites. Furthermore, there was an increase in slavery, which reduced the quality of life that the people led. There was also an increase in the spread of diseases, which caused suffering among the people. With proper leadership in place, the problems would have been adequately addressed.
According to Don George Juan and Don Antonio de Ulloa, there was an expression of inequality in society. The activities of the leaders caused that. The leaders that were serving at that time had selfish interests, which were shown through the distribution of resources. Most people were languishing in poverty, at the expense of their leaders. The rulers at that time kept a lot of wealth for themselves. That led to poverty among people, mostly the young men, who had no possessions. The inequality was enormous and kept growing, compromising the quality of peoples' lives. The other example of poor leadership was expressed through the deception of the king, as revealed by Bartholomew de las Casas (De las Casas 49). Based on the fraud, there was a war that was declared on innocent people. The innocent people were in no way responsible for the inconvenience caused but ended up suffering in the long run. Therefore, it is evident that the welfare of society is based on leadership, and in these cases, it was ineffective in serving its roles.
