Communication is an integral part of our lives and needs constant nourishment as we continue to grow. It is worth noting that communication changes as one grow up, and therefore the way one used to talk before is not the same way they are talking after growing up. That also involves how one deals with conflicts that arise from communication conflicts. The way children solve their communication conflicts is way much different than the way adults solve their problems. Children would resort to violence through fighting to sort what issues they have. Adults, on the other hand, are expected to resolve their communication conflicts more maturely.
From the chapters we have read in class about communication, I have learned that it is crucial always to communicate whenever there is a problem in any situation, making you uncomfortable. That may be the workplace, at school, at home, or even while with friends having a good time. Communication is the sole way to know whether one is content with whatever is happening around them and that it is not infringing on them in any way. Effective communication also entails making people understand your perspective without them necessarily having to agree with you on everything (Spaho, p. 103). Instead of making them accommodate your opinion, you try to make them understand why you are thinking the way you are.
The most important thing I have acquired in this communication class is how to deal with my insecurities. Insecurities are a common thing for people to have, and they develop on their own, and there is a tiny one can do to stop them. Vulnerabilities may manifest in different ways and maybe a bug to effective communication. When one is not feeling good about a certain topic, it is better to talk it out with the people involved rather than going combative about the whole thing. Choosing not to talk about what makes you feel insecure in a company, in school with friends and other relationships is not healthy.
Some of the insecurities may manifest as conflicts, and thus it is imperative to deal with them as allowing them to grow only makes it worse for the bearer. Assuming one is a tempered person, anyone joking with him or she feels insecure about will result in a conflict sim. The reason is that they think the other person is making a mockery of their situation. That brings me to my next important lesson, dealing with anger. Anger is a bad trait that drains one the joy and the happiness to deal with all the communications objectively. People with anger issues tend to have clouded judgment and may end up doing things out of spite. Dealing with anger is an essential aspect of communication and should be embraced by everyone who is out there to have excellent communication with their partners.
Conclusion
I have learned how to be objective in dealing with my anger and preventing from clouding my judgment and thus affecting my abilities to act. Anger is not suitable for one's health neither for the relationships he has, whether it is at work, school and even at home. One anger management skills are very instrumental in ensuring that they remain to keep the conversations they have and maintain the relationships too. Seeking the services of a counselor who will guide on the ways to deal with anger is an excellent step to take for anyone struggling with the same.
