If your dreams do not scare you, then they are not big enough. This has been my mantra since I joined Everett University, Danville for my first Bachelor's Degree in Accounting and Marketing. My career goal is to become a CPA and CFP and eventually begin a career in my home town of Danville, Virginia as a tax consultant or a personal finance consultant. My academic goal is to complete an MBA program in one of the leading business schools. However, my undergraduate GPA and GMAT scores are slightly below the class average which necessitates my application for the Postgraduate Certificate Program. I also need additional work experience to be eligible for MBA programs. These drawbacks do not dampen my spirit. Instead, the seatbacks just strengthen my resolve to join the MBA programs. To get into the MBA program, I am applying for admission into the Tax Analytics and Technology Certificate Program. My
Academic and professional background in accounting and marketing and my Associates Degree in Business and Administration provided me with a strong foundation in tax analytics which will be an added advantage to me as I pursue the certificate course in tax analytics and technology.
I am an enterprising person and I believe that my experiences at Snead, Williams & Mayhew PLC as a staff accountant is adequate proof of my strong grounding on accounting and tax theory and practice. I also believe that having worked as a head cook at the Cici' pizza and as a carpenter's Assistant at Powell's Flooring helped me develop professionally with a strong work ethic, organization, high productivity, a keen eye for details, time management as well as teamwork and cooperation. My talents include excellent numerical skills and analytical thinking. I also possess strong interpersonal, networking and multitasking skills which I believe will an asset to me as I pursue the certificate course. I am therefore committed to developing my talents and knowledge into new areas such as taxation, and data analysis. I would like to get a deeper knowledge on how to extract tax data, manipulate, analyze and summarize the data to enable me to solve tax problems.
My research interest is in Tax Analytics and Technology Certificate and the graduate certificate in Finance especially in data security and warehousing and analysis of unstructured data in tax. I would like to gather additional knowledge and competencies in tax analytics tools, database management in tax, forecasting and scenario analyses, project management, visual analytics, data security, and enterprise resource planning. To develop a sound financial acumen, I need to pursue a rigorous program that will equip me with a better understanding of the financial literacy concept, metrics as well as processes such as budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and regulatory compliances. I also need to develop business quality skills necessary for managing costs, driving finicky and understanding economic trends. As the world is becoming globalized, I would like to develop a better understanding of the global issues including risks, governance, and compliances. After having reviewed the university's curriculum, I have come to the conclusion that I will be in a better position to graduate with the best grades if I get an opportunity to study in your institution based on the school's rigorous programs, state of the art library, and competent staff. My interest in corporate finance, investment theory, and practices, equity valuation, business information technology, financial modeling and taxes, and business strategy, as well as financial modeling, are all included in the school's program.
I am a culturally competent person who believes in the beauty of diversity. I also believe that a culturally diverse institution such as your schools will be the best setting to acquire both academic pieces of knowledge and develop my interpersonal skills necessary to thrive in the diverse workplaces. I would love to celebrate with other students from various ethnic, religious and political background irrespective of their gender because this is the only way to understand them better.
Conclusion
Completing my certificate course in your schools will give me an added advantage in my career plans because of the credit hours requires to attain a competitive graduate GPA to transfer to my desired MBA program. I am hoping to complete at least nine credit hours at your school being an AACSB- Accredited programs with a GPA of 3.4. The rigorous certificate programs will also introduce me to the rigor of the MBA program. This way, I will have an upper hand in my MBA program because I will be interacting and collaborating with other prospective MBA applicants. There is a lot of benefits that accrue from such interaction which are not limited to group discussion, and development of analytical skills. I will be reviewing case studies, conducting mock interview and simulation. I believe that given an opportunity to complete the Postgraduate Certificate Programs will be to me a blessing and I look forward to learning in an exciting environment such as your school.
