The film Akeelah and the Bee produced by Doug Atchison produces the movie. The film is about a young girl Akeelah Anderson, a bright student who hails from the south of Los Angeles. Akeelah has passion for word spelling, but she has been experiencing life difficulties at home and school. The girl has been absent at school most of the time, and as a result, she falls in trouble with her school principal who pushes her to participate in a spelling bee competition. To the surprise of many, she wins. The School principal asks her to get some coaching from Dr. Larabbee who is an English teacher. However, Akeelah's mother Tanya Anderson, a widow, is against her daughters' initiative to participate in the competitions and she thinks it is a waste of time. She tells her daughter to concentrate on her studies instead. Akeelah Proceeds from regional levels to Scripps National Spelling Bee where she meets new fellow experienced spellers. The community is proud of her and rally behind her. She overcomes her challenged and achieves her aspirations (IMDb, 2006).

A gender stereotype is still evident in our societies today. The community has different generalized characteristics to a particular gender, and anyone who is opposed to the order faces rejection. The stereotypes are as a result of cultural beliefs from a specific group of people. The opinions do not have a logical basis (Lazovic, 2012). For Instance, some people believe that women cannot perform well in manual works such as masonry since they are not masculine. Most stereotypes are not necessarily logic.

The Film Akeelah and the Bee affirms how the stereotype is a critical challenge to a girl child. The mother and the classmates have a notion that Akeelah is doing the unusual by engaging in the spelling bee completion. The African -American believe that such competitions belong to the kids from well up families and Akeelah, a girl is unfit to participate. They withdraw their support for Akeelah. Only her school principal believes that Akeelah is talented in word selling. Other people look down upon her because of her gender and humble background.

Emotional intelligence enhances an individual with the ability to make think and come up with amicable solutions to surrounding problems. According to Tourkine (2006), the environment contributes to the level of emotional intelligence in a child. Akeelah is aright students with exceptional skills in word spelling. However, society is hostile to her, and she is unable to portray her potentials. The film depicts that emotional intelligence can be improved through therapy and learning. Despite, the spelling bee competitions being conserved for the affluent, Akeelah puts efforts through knowledge and beats all odds to emerge the winner in the National Spelling Bee competitions.
