'Do Not Go Gentle into That Good Night' by Dylan Thomas is a passionate and emotional poem meant to show the author's feelings. Thomas was a great writer that was admired for using the villanelle (the French language) into English (Thomas 54). The author also utilized his poetic tool to advantage him by crafting the poem into emotions. Even though the story portrayed sadness and pain, it also had a perspective of death. The understanding of this poem is that everyone should struggle and fight against the inevitability of events to stop the destruction, arriving from unexpected moments. Today, the ironies of the verses are significant when taken at face value. Wise people happen not to be the elderly but the youth who fight for the future based on the empirical knowledge and facts instead of the fruitless struggle that only maintains the status quo (Thomas 98). Again, depending on someone's view of society, many of them see the president as a wise individual, but the truth is that it is the citizens. That is why artists always educate people towards the path of reality and knowledge over darkness and falseness. Words will continuously develop essential changes in the world either now, sooner, or in the future. The thing that matters is what the world has in store for the people.
'The Road Not Taken' is a poem narrated by Robert Frost to give the reader a dilemma of choices (Frost 64). The understanding of this poem is that in life, two roads appear in dry wood to separate them. Presumably, the end of the streets will be divided, and there is no choice but to either continue with the journey or choose one road. It is quite clear that not many people read poetry unless the poem is famous. The question remains how 'The Road Not Taken' fought against other poems. The most exciting thing about this poem is not the immense popularity but the idea it portrays to people that seem wrong to some choices. Many people, in this case, underscore the truth and take it for granted (Frost 108). The message revealed in this poem is that life usually presents people with many choices. Anytime someone makes a decision, they are required to see it as a fork in a path. In other words, people need to be bright before making choices because one has to be made, but not both. The poem does not elaborate about the road less traveled, but about uniqueness and individuality (Frost 124). Everyone agrees that making choices is human nature. The difference is whether one will have a different life based on the favorable decision made. While this is a thoughtful and reflective poem, it shows people how turning points encounter people's lives. As humans, the thinking process revolves around trying to work out issues either through the low road or the high road.
The reason why the two poems can be used in the final assignment is that they will be able to send a message to the students of choices they must make before going out to the world. For instance, the first poem teaches being wise and why people should not wait for the old or leaders to tell them if the choices made are good or bad. The second poem, on the other hand, relates more to hard decisions one must make. Therefore when they are used as the final assignments, then students will have ideas and confidence before making their final choices on career paths.
