Introduction
This investigation aimed to determine the details of great sex as portrayed in men magazines and women magazines in applying both qualitative and quantitative procedures from the content analysis. Technical, relationship, variety, physiological and pre-sex preparations are the key factors of great sex. From the popular magazines, physical factors and range were showed to achieve great sex. This article shows the similarities and differences between men and women about great sex, as depicted in their respective magazines.
Great Sex in Pop Culture
Findings
Advice on achieving great sex was shown in a way that brought about the gender stereotypes, promotion of small sexual scripts, and the presentation of contradictory and conflicting messages in both the male and female magazines. From the content analysis, the five dominant themes of great sex were established. The quantitative analysis results show that the focus was on the technical/mechanical factors and variety categories. Items related to these factors appeared in almost every type.
Men’s Relationships With Media, Real Bodies, and Sexuality
Findings
From the findings, there is positive body esteem from the readers of pornographic materials and fitness magazines. Primetime TV and music videos contributed to low body esteem. Fantasy effects of reading fitness magazines may result in high body esteem. If the males engage in the muscle and strength fitting activities, it motivates them to build the body ideal. However, they may not be comfortable with other aspects of the body that is sweat and hair. However, the consumption of these ideal images will result in negative feelings, shame, and discomfort if not matched. From the result, there is a relationship between men and their body comfort regarding their sexual experience based on the decision they make around it. Men who are comfortable with their bodies are likely to have higher sexual experience and are more likely to engage in safe sex practices. This is, however, the opposite of the men who are not comfortable with their body and thus fear negative evaluation. This makes them be emotionally withdrawn from their partners, making it difficult for communication on their needs to be sidelined. Just like women, men who have internalized the body ideal presented by the media will negatively affect sexual health. However, from the study, men's attitude was not affected by the ideal women’s body presented by the media, as per the given indices in the survey. However, the research shows that men who were comfortable with their partner’s body had a great sex life and were happy and committed to their relationships. Men who are more sexually assertive indicated to have a great experience with their partners, thus resulting in more fabulous sex experience. Men's attitude on their bodies and that of the women affects their sexual health.
Similarities
Both articles seem to put across the gender stereotype associated with sexual experiences. Men are perceived to have a sex appetite; thus, naturally, it should just outdo their female counterparts. On the other hand, the female gender seems to have a lot to do to experience sexual satisfaction. Both articles have full content on the effect of body image and comfort on the sexual experience. They have perceived that being comfortable in our bodies have a positive impact on the sex experience. The role of communication has been well put across when it comes to achieving intimacy. Both articles show that our ability to communicate with our partners on what works or doesn't works for us will have a significant impact on our intimacy experience. Couples who are more open with their partners will experience a healthy sexual life compared to those who don't have. From the magazines have the upper hand in shaping our attitudes on sex? The result is positive, as indicated by the research findings. Magazines contain editorial content, photographic materials that have an impact on our sexual lives. The effects have highly been portrayed as positive.
Differences
Prescriptive sexual content where there was a lack of sexual advice on men's magazines, which is likely to show that men are expected to be experts in the area. The photographic content was women were showcased as happy and attractive. They focused on the camera while the men fixed their eyes on women.
