Part B:
You must provide a summary of what you learned during this meeting. The questions do not have to be listed and answered in this order. Simply note what you learned from the lunch meeting. You are welcome to use these questions as a guide.
1. Career-wise, how did you get to where you are today?
Marketing and personal selling is a career that I learned right from childhood. My dad had a significant role in influencing my choice since he was a marketer and he was someone that I always looked up to. I would admire how smartly he dressed for work, his mastery of content, and how he would confidently sell various products. I thus resolved to take marketing and personal selling in the future. All through my education, I have always found the business classes thrilling as I decided to learn as much as I could since this is a career that I resolved to pursue. Whenever I come across a new and exciting product, I am often inquisitive as I try to learn as much as I can from the product.
2. What do you do as part of your everyday work day?
As I had mentioned above, I am into marketing a personal selling. I meet different clients on a daily basis whereby I explain to them the various products that I am selling. Since I come across different products on a regular basis, I resolve to learn as much as I can so that I can confidently answer queries that are raised by my clients. I have a schedule that runs from Monday to Friday whereby I meet different company executives and promote various products that I sell.
3. Would you recommend this type of career? Why? Why Not?
I would recommend this type of career to individuals who have excellent interpersonal skills. Selling and marketing career is one exciting career as the professionals get to meet company executives in their line of duty. Product knowledge, appearance, and attitude are crucial factors when it comes to this career. The career is also fulfilling as it seeks to solve problems and thus fulfill the needs. It is also one career that can be referred to as ever-green since there will always be opportunities since products are often launched on a daily basis.
4. If you were me, what types of classes, skills, etc. would you recommend I take or obtain, for an entry level position in this area?
I would recommend that you take any business and administration course for the entry-level position in this area. We have different business and administration courses that are dynamic and tailor-made to suit various needs. Some of the skills that are critical in this position include interpersonal skills, communication, product knowledge, active listening, time management, qualification questioning, and rapport building just but to mention a few. The listed courses and skills will give you an opportunity to excel in the field.
5. What changes do you see coming in this industry that, if you were me, you would want to be prepared for?
The marketing and personal selling industry are already being digitalized thanks to technological changes. It is thus essential to align yourself by gaining the critical digital skills that will be required in this area. This will ensure that you remain relevant in future in this career. The other change that is sweeping across this industry is globalization. Preparing how to market and sell products to different clients in a different geographical location is critical as different techniques and strategies are needed in different markets.
6. If you had to do it all over again, what would you do differently? Why or why not?
If I would do it all over again, I would take the communication and mathematics class seriously. One of the mistakes that I made over the years is that I over-concentrated on the business subjects alone and often ignored the mathematics and communication class. Communication and math are also essential in personal selling and marketing course. I would also take up numerous internship opportunities in this field, chances that I have turned down before.
7. What major strengths and weaknesses do you believe "people my age" need to work on or capitalize on?
Excellent communication, flexibility, and effective listening are the significant strengths that I believe my age mates should capitalize on. These skills are critical in this industry and people who possess these skills typically do well as compared to those who do not have the skills. On the other hand, honesty is a weakness that they need to work on to capitalize on the enormous gains in this industry. Most people in the marketing and personal selling industry have been dishonest by convincing clients to purchase products that they know are defective.
8. Do you know of any company that has internships for this type of career?
Yes, some companies in the United States have internship opportunities in this type of career. One of the advantages of this career is that the professionals in this field are not limited in the area to study. All sectors be it education, automobile, food, hospitality, and even manufacturing need marketing and personal selling executives to help them in marketing different products. Thrive Marketing Group, and Darby Consulting are some of the companies that offer internship opportunities in this type of career.

10. Can I say you recommended that I contact them?
Well, you may go ahead and tell them that I recommended that you contact them. However, it is essential to point out that they do not know me personally. I was able to assess these opportunities through the various job boards.
11. Any other ideas you have that may be of help to someone like me?
I would suggest that you visit various online job boards to get opportunities and openings in this field. Secondly, this field requires people who are open to learning and trying new ideas. You should, therefore, be flexible for the same.
