The Canadian Army Forces abbreviated as (CAF) represents a complex adaptive system composed of various sub-systems such as the platoons, units, regiments, squadrons, ships, environments, among others. The CAF is part of numerous supra-systems (Department of National Defence, the Canadian Government, coalitions, international organizations and ultimately, the international system). In the readings, you will explore multiple facets of military operations. Firstly, we examined how the CAF supports Canada's governmental policies by describing national security and foreign policies. Then, we discussed the contemporary security environment, and we analyzed its impacts on the CAF at the operational and strategic levels. In doing so, we discussed critical strategic approaches and concepts pertinent to the current security environment. Finally, we provided an overview of the national and multinational command and control structures at the strategic level.

The 21st century has led to a new set of challenges in the security sector whereby Canada has adopted securities policies depending on the unit force. Precisely, the CAF has adopted the foreign policy which is considered as the government legislative framework and vision towards enhancing better national and international securities. According to the CAF military operations are broke down into three phases; strategic, operational and the tactical. The three levels allow the agency visualize on the operational plans, resource allocations and deploying of personnel. In each phase, therefore, defines its outcome in a chronological prospect. The strategic level of operation derives the national strategies of Canadian soil and the supranational strategies. The national plans set out the foreign policies whereby the Canadian government has to ensure the international allies accommodate all policies pertaining security. The international partners comprise the United Nations and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. The operational level of the CAF plans implements administrative services and war operations. This phase is critical and requires deploying of personnel efficiently and effectively to accommodate the foreign issues. The main international security issue being terrorism require borderline protection. The third phase of tactical strategy projects plans to be executed to accomplish the military objectives. Activities at this level aim at a chronological set of maneuvers to combat enemies and to shape the events at the course of operations.

The foreign security policy orientations by the Canadian Armed Force have been transformed within the last few decades and work towards the government objectives. Precisely, the CAF according to the National Defense Act 1 share tremendous responsibilities in supporting the civil authority. Subsequently, under The Emergency Act 2, the CAF is designed to act temporarily on the extreme security situations on a national crisis. Therefore, the national policy mandate at this moment is to keep the Canadians safe from a range of issues which comprise of crime, natural disasters, and terrorism. The new approaches based on the legislative measures as a foundation of addressing policies in the national security facing Canada. The world is evolving, and several securities issues are facing a difficult decision which requires a sound basis of handling issues. The Anti-Terrorism Act along with the Public Safety Act among other security laws is used in developing security objectives. They are essential in steering development the Canadian Armed Forces on national security.

This is a principal proponent in the sharing of information among agencies of the Canadian government. Thus, the Canadian Armed Force will operate efficiently by receive broad range of information from the government agencies and deploy the operational policies effectively.

Besides, the Terrorism Act was criminalized according to the National Defence Act 2015. These are among the essential proponents for national security policy. The soft system on political operations organizes a course of security operation through the legislative appeals. Secondly, it interacts with the relevant stakeholders before any amendments. Additionally, it integrates the functioning of the military organs and justifies their course of operations. Finally, the military objectives are interdepend on the human behaviors at the course of events.

Both linear systems and the soft systems provide common features of security operations at the Canadian Armed Forces. However, coordinating activities require frequent amendments of the law and justification of efficient operations.
