Introduction

London and Washington, DC sit at the pinnacle of modernization, technological sophistication and power as they are both homes to the most powerful governments in the world. In spite of that, London and Washington, DC are capital cities of English-speaking countries (Britain and the United States respectively), and yet the experiences from these two cities are significantly different, both to the visitors and the natives. To critically analyze both cities; it would be essential to look at them through the lenses of their history, culture, and their people's way of life. With this in mind, it can be identified that both cities have a rich history, even though their accounts have developed at different times. For example, London's history dates back over a period of two thousand years ago for it was part of the Roman Empire which was then called Londinium.

On the other hand, Washington, DC formally came into existence in the late 18th century even though the Native Americans had occupied the land for several thousand years earlier. However, since its establishment, the United States's capital has maintained a global influence which has only increased as time goes by. Nonetheless, despite the historical differences between the two cities, they both have and will continue to assert significant dominance in the areas of economic and cultural aspects.

However, it is important to note that, both Washington DC and London are home to a vast array of museums that harbor most of the most expensive artifacts in the world. While London has the art scene and galleries, Washington's National Gallery and Smithsonian galleries have a definite edge in this category. In a comparison of the cultural diversity and cost of living, both cities have a high cost of living and shopping where it could cost a person about $ 1,800 per month for one bedroom apartment in Washington, DC ("Writing for Success: Compare/Contrast | English Composition 1," n.d.). However, living in London is more expensive where this amount can be double if a person is living in the same one-bedroom apartment.

On the other hand, a difference in cultural diversity can be established in these two cities wherein Washington, DC the majority of the residents are from the minority races, meaning that most of its population is not made up of the white people, London, by contrast, is predominantly made up of white population with very few minority groups.

Conclusion

In conclusion, despite the fact that these two cities have many differences and similarities in areas of history, art, culture and racial demographics, they still remain to be the most prestigious and exciting places to be on earth.
