Introduction

Anthony Macciola argues that CIOs should be familiar with four unethical issues affected AI. Macciola urges CIOs to understand their roles of making sure that company AI reams steady and neutral ("Bad, Biased, and Unethical Uses of AI," n.d.). In this article, Macciola identifies the four bad, bias, and unethical issues as mortgage lending, Education, search, and Human resources.

On the issue of Human resources, the article narrates that the most infamous problems that are perpetuated with recruiting and hiring process were made visible to the public through Reuter reports that the new recruiting process used Amazon.com excluded women. Also, the mode of mortgage lending has changed from human bias to algorithm bias ("Bad, Biased, and Unethical Uses of AI," n.d.). Adair Morse exclaimed in their study that even though people write algorithm intending to create a fair system, still their programming system have a disparate effect on minority borrowers which is considered as discrimination under the law.

In the modern world, the primary internet searches can create a biased system. For instance, a person can google a topic but can be manipulated to some images or inappropriate issues. Today, some schools have a tainted system. By 1986, school officials were largely affected by potential discrimination when they discovered that over 60 female and minority applicants were excluded on every annual program unfairly. Even after realizing the problem, the staff member was reluctant to raise the complaint to seek an amicable solution.

Biblical Theory

Based on the biblical perspective, the Bible addresses the spiritual and moral instruction of children in particular and believers in general. The Bible focuses on the value of knowledge especially about God and His works. Notably, the Bible expounds more on the spiritual and moral fruits of God's knowledge by describing its ultimate goal. (Raymond, 2014) The ultimate purpose of Biblical theory is to direct human development process towards God's purpose for a man. The objectives include a godliness action and character.

Analysis

From this case, Macciola urges that the CIO's have a critical role to play to address the ethical use of data. Following the mortgage lending issue, there is a need for the CIO to follow the action created by Well Fargo which is the urge of using a "community calculator." In this context, the community calculator shall be used to assist the buyers in getting the correct neighborhood.

The CIO's based on the biblical perspective of following God and His action should cover the six principles of accountability, transparency, inclusiveness, privacy and security, safety and reliability, and fairness. From these concepts, it can be argued that Amazon.com was unfair to exclude women in their new recruiting engine. The Amazon software system was not reliable and transparent as it disqualified people who attended women's college ("Bad, Biased, and Unethical Uses of AI," n.d.). The Bible supports that people are wonderfully and fearfully made. The idea of using an adopted algorithmic decision-making system at HR process level that discriminates women contradicts the bible. Following God and His work require the HR to design an algorithm that avoids the use of bias indicators such as race, age, and gender.

One of the critical principles of ethics is privacy and security. From the case of searches were professor Safiya Umoja addresses in her book "Algorithm of Oppression," that while googling for "black women" in the websites to share with her nieces, she is shown pornographic sites. Also, other biases shown on searches such as doctors are considered men and nurses as women. Based on the biblical perspective, God does not give his believers what they do not ask for in life. Matt 7:7 that "Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you" (Raymond, 2014). In other words, if the CIO's were to emulate God and his work, there is a need to ensure that sites are secure and private to avoid cases of unethical misconducts and biasness.

Inclusivity is a vital ethical principle that extends to believers of God. From the issue of education, it is unethical for schools to exclude and discriminate female applicants ("Bad, Biased, and Unethical Uses of AI," n.d.). There should be a penalty awarded to schools that excludes and fail to admit some of the applicants. In this context, the people recommend in Psalm 139: 14 that "I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful; I know that full well" (Raymond, 2014). If CIO were to the owner the works of God which is wonderful, they would have developed a system where every applicant meets a given threshold without being discriminated in any given manner.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the four ethical problems across mortgage lending, search, education, and human resources have a strong relation to biblical theory. In essence, technology should be designed and developed based on international laws. In other words, international laws should cover the six principles such as accountability, transparency, inclusiveness, privacy and security, safety and reliability, and fairness. The above policies comply with the biblical approach of the knowledge of God and His works.
