Basquiat Artwork Representing His Life

Born in 1960 in Brooklyn to Puerto Rican mother and Haitian father,Jean Michel Basquiat had his art discovered when he was four years old. In grade ten, he began to graffiti buildings portraying dichotomies which compared social status like poverty versus wealth and were greatly influenced by the abstract and neo-expressionist movements (Hoffman, 2014). His canvas arts feature themes such as religion, self-identity, race, and mortality. The use of people of color in his different self-portraits shows that he was on a continuous pursuit of self-discovery and understanding his racial status. Going through harsh personal stress as a young, black, ghetto man, with a desire to be a famous artist, and always being in the public eye, led to his heroin addiction. Observing the characters, he drew and artistic styles used, we can see that his personal life shaped his artwork. He uses powerful brush strokes on the canvas paintings,and all the work is abstract. Basquiat is seen using uneven patches of paint which create a sense of pain. The artistic style of scribbling all over the canvas portrays that he might be on some hard drug. His erratic streaks of bright paint show that he is undergoing some sort of personal issue that he is articulating it through his art.

Research Process on Sor Juana Ines De La Cruz and Leonardo Da Vinci

Researching on Sor Juana and Da Vinci was quite interesting since they are one of the famously known artists. I took a curious approach to learn more about how they rose to fame as one of the best. As for Da Vinci, his art painting of Mona Lisa, which is currently owned by the French government, is what keeps him famous being one of the most renownedmurals in the universe. He spent four years on the art with thirty coatings of paint (Da Vinci, 2012).I found it astonishing that even after Juan becoming a nun, she wrote secular love poems. Her scope of variety from the scholarly to the popular and the serious to the comical is not usual for a sister. Juan composed religious, satiric, moral, and poems of praise to people of the law.

I learned that art is so broad and can be confusing at times.Writing requires an individual's interestin the topic. Sor Juana's motivation in women's writing and feminism resulted in her fame as the most significant writer of the Spanish American colonial era. Her famous poem 'Hombres Necious' (Foolish Men) indicts men of the wrong deeds which they disparage in women (Cole, 2011). Sor Juana's love poems in the first persona portray a woman's cynicism with love, given the loneliness, jealousy, pain, and strife that it brings. It is not a must for an artist to be a perfectionist like Da Vinci, but his level of enthusiasm is what inspires us. The perfected pieces of art are what will be remembered in years to come and not those that are producedin a hurry for sale.
