Introduction
Axiology is a branch of philosophy that deals with the study of values. It seeks to understand the nature, types, and criteria of values. In this article, the assumption is that value can be measured and exressed objectively. God attributes what is excellent and valuable to Himself. As such, Christian ministry should be performed in such a way that it is assigned to God. Therefore, this text seeks to express God's power and goodness within creation.
To help in Christian ministry, the Holy Spirit helps in providing gifts to the church in a bid to empower believer to overcome sin and validate the gospel of the highest. (Hebrews 9:14; Acts 5:3; Isaiah 63:10; Genesis 1:2). Arguably, some theologians claim that some of the gifts of the Holy Spirit have ceased. Classically, these are the sign gifts which include miracles and speaking in tongues among others According to Towns (2001), none of these gifts has ceased rather their personal development have diminished.
Ministry Praxis
Assumptions (educational) -God has chosen to educate his people. In that regard, it is the assumption that people are capable of learning. Moreover, it is the assumption that learning significantly influences human beliefs and values. In its broadest sense, education points to us the need for openness and reception of truth. (Acts 2: 42; Mathew 28:18; Jeremiah 9:24; 2nd Timothy 2:1; Deuteronomy 11:19). However, according to Melchert (1978), education is indispensable to Christianity. It is the pastor's responsibility to educate the believers and apply the teachings of the scriptures in their day-to-day lives.
The Church is generally responsible for the spiritual formation of Christians. However, this is the main function of the congregation. Christians are tasked with mentoring and teaching those believers who are spiritually immature. While the role of the Holy Spirit cannot be overlooked in the maturing of Christian believers, the Church has the authority to establish educational and mentorship programs.(Acts 2:24; Hebrews 5:12).
The teacher's role in the Church principally belongs to the Holy Spirit. This role is fulfilled through the illumination of human agents who are skilled at teaching. Therefore the part of the student is to be responsive to the instructions of the Holy Spirit. The students ought to be diligent in applying the new information into their lives.
Leadership-it is essential for the Church to imitate Jesus Christ since leadership failure carries dire consequences both as a church and individual believers. A leader should submit to God's authority, and the gifts of the Holy Spirit must equip them. The greatest act of imitating Christ is in servant leadership. This is done by meeting people's needs without regarding their social and cultural stand.
