Introduction

Looking at the article, one thing that comes out explicitly is the discussion about sex which brings into picture certain delicate issues that people come to realize at different stages of life. To some, it comes as a surprise while to others they are conditions that have formed part of their lives. The article starts by imaging a case which Paul James, a clinical geneticist encountered in early 2010 (Ainsworth, 2015). A middle-aged woman, of about 46 years of age, visited his clinic to find out the amniocentesis test which aimed at screening the chromosomes of her baby's abnormalities. Least of her expectations was what the follow-up test revealed about her.

The test showed that one part of the cells was made up of the two X chromosomes while the other part was composed of both X and Y. It was thus her first time to realize that a part of her body was chromosomally male. The case takes us to the main argument of the article where the author first confirms the idea which people had anchored about sex. According to him, people believe that the idea of sex is a simple issue, but biologist changes the view by looking sex from a broader perspective. The paper, equally, seeks to redefine sex by looking at myriads of cases that elaborate or explain human sexuality (Ainsworth, 2015). The other issue which comes into the picture is the challenge of dichotomy based on intermediate cases that push limits and question us to figure out the dividing areas between male and female sexes.

The author, Arthur Arnold, attempts to find answers for the issues mentioned in the previous paragraph by looking at the number of ways in which sex is defined. Some of the ways include the genesis of sex, the battle between sexes, the issue of beyond binary, and the case of cellular sex. The start of sex is argued at the beginning of life when the embryo is about weeks of development. The battle of sexes is primarily explained based on the research findings of the gonad teeters which exist between male and female throughout an entire lifetime (Ainsworth, 2015). The other issue is on beyond binary which can be explained based on the societal and the biological arguments.

It is also notable that the researcher primarily depended on the research method of archival studies on different scientific kinds of literature and considering the views of different scientists. For example, in the case of the battle of sexes, some scientists think that the balance of sexes may shift at the end of human development. Divergent opinions exist in the definition of sex with the final finding being given by one Vilain that the lack of existence of one parameter which takes over another parameter leaves gender identity as the only reasonable and significant parameter. Therefore, knowing about a person's sex is based on making a direct inquiry to the person.

Nonetheless, the paper presented certain key concepts and theories. Such included, the issue of chromosomes which exist in two different forms, X and Y. Another issue was on the terminologies like beyond binary, battle of sexes, and cellular sex among others (Ainsworth, 2015). The arguments are, therefore, important because they allow us to have a broader view of sexuality. The author's contribution also played a pivotal function because it aimed to figure out the drawing line between the male and the females.

Conclusion

In summary, the article played a significant part in changing the cultural norms that society may have when a person is a transgender. It used scientific opinions and evidence in providing clarity. Most importantly, it connected with the current events following the rising cases of transgender. The research, therefore, achieved its objective in making clear the case about sex but also failed to provide solutions to people with transgender issues or matters sexual complexities. I would recommend that the research should be furthered so that while it explains the complexities of human sexuality, it also offers solutions to cases of transgender and how society can embrace transgender people.
