What insights did you gain from the videos regarding positive reasons to stay away from sexual sin?
Staying away from sexual sin means one obeys the scripture and the commands given in the Bible. As such, it ensures we stay away from death, destruction among other factors such as lack of joy (Allberry, Butterfield & Perry, 2016).
Again it means we follow Gods holiness which is good for us (Allberry, Butterfield & Perry, 2016). It implies that we bear the image of God in that we follow the Bibles sexual ethics which are part of its goodness, truth and Bibles beauty.
Discuss how the perspectives presented in the videos differ from current predominant cultural views on sex and why.
We find that the videos present perspectives that are in support of the teaching of the Bible and why we ought to follow the commands in the Bible. The powers given in the Bible although not supported by all are argued to be for the good of the people. God wants the best for us and that why there is dictation on what we should do and what we should not. However, in today's world, we find that the topic of sex and areas such as pornography are way too over exaggerated such as in the case of the myths concerning pornography. We must, therefore, be in a position to effectively deal with the topic of sex with caution and support those struggling with sexuality issues.
Discuss how the perspectives presented in the videos impact your thinking about working with others who are struggling with sexual issues.
First, I acknowledge and concur with Fradd (2014) that thing such as sex and orgasms are useful since they are part of God's creation. However, these topics are misunderstood and often viewed in secrecy with fear of being subjects to discrimination or criticism. We should be sensitive in addressing sexual concerns and instead help those struggling with sexual issues instead of viewing the topic in secrecy or basing conclusions on myths.
Describe one way the perspectives may help or one way it may present a challenge.
In perspective that sex is good but it has its boundaries, to help those struggling with sexual issues, challenges such as being also accused to support sexual areas like lesbianism may prove to be a challenge and therefore discourage the process.
Discuss briefly whether you think some sexual issues are "different" from others (pedophilia verses pornography addiction, same-sex relationships, marital affairs, multiple partners, teen sex, polygamy, etc.). If so, why is one wrong and another right or one less of a problem than another?
I think some sexual issues are different from each other since they depend on whether they were prohibited in the Bible or not. These issues differ in the fact that the main reason for sex include recreational purpose and practices such as same-sex relationship do not fulfil this command. However, practices such as polygamy while prohibited in one community and acceptable in another, I would argue that polygamy is less of a sexual issue since it was also practised in the Bible and supports recreation. Also, in my view, lesbianism is less of a problem in most communities as opposed to gay which brings me to conclude that it all depends on how society views and implicates things. However, they are all wrong.
Finally, provide a brief self-assessment of how you think your current view of sexual ethics (as nonbias) will affect your approach to helping others as a social worker.
As a social worker, one would expect to interact with a lot of people with diverse sexual characteristics and orientation. As such, my sexual ethics however much against sexual issues like homosexuality allows for informed decisions about peoples sexual matters. It is important to understand people sexual orientation and respect their choice. There is a need to understand why a person chooses their sexual practices before judging them.
