Introduction
Globalization refers to the increasing interdependence of the global cultures, population, and economies that is facilitated by cross border trade in technology, goods, and the flow of investment, information, and people.
Factor That Lead to the Development of Globalization
Globalization is usually brought about by various key factors across the world. One of the main factor leading to the development of globalization is the improvements in transportation. The means of transport between various destinations across the globe have Improved significantly in the recent past. This has helped to improve or enhance the connectivity between countries and also reduced the cost of doing trade. For instance, the existence of large cargo ships means that the cost of transporting various goods from one location to another will decrease. This is because the cost per item when transporting goods in large quantities, particularly in a ship tends to reduce.
The Failures of Globalization
Globalization has had various significant failures that have affected various countries across the world. Some of the failures include, first globalization has facilitated the spread and growth of the Islamic terror organizations such as ISIS and Al Qaeda. The globalized terror networks tend to use the machinery of globalization such as trains, jet planes, multicultural cities, and the internet to conduct their terror attacks. Secondly, instead of uniting people, some of the machinery or symbols of globalization such as the internet are tearing people apart into various tribes and creating conflict between these tribes. The generations that have been raised on the internet are also considered to have become most intolerant of free speech in this century, creating conflict. Thirdly, globalization is not leading people to a bright new age; instead it is leading the people to the old age of iron. Currently, colonialism is being undertaken by the country with a strong sense of identity against the country that lack a sense of identity. For instance, the fall of the western countries has not opened to a global government; instead, it has resulted to the rising power of Russia, Iran, and China.
One-Way in Which Globalization Did Not Live Up to Its Promises.
Globalization has attained most of its goals and objectives across the globe, however there various ways in which it did not live up to its promises. One of these ways include, it has not yet managed to protect or uphold climate change and environmental damage. Increase in global production results to an increase in the utilization of resources. This has led to increased pollution, thus affecting climate change. Therefore globalization needs to put various strategies in place to ensure that it has met its promise of controlling climate and environmental change.
Why Does Stieglitz Think, “The Failures of Globalization Are Not Inevitable”?
When Stiglitz thinks that the failures of globalization are not inevitable, he is trying to claim that the failure of globalization can be prevented probably through the implementation of various measures or strategies.
How Can the Outcomes of Globalization Be Improved?
To improve the outcome of globalization, the parties involved have to work together in unity, for example, through sharing crucial information. In areas where the globalization outcomes do not achieve the intended purpose, the parties involved should meet and come up with a lasting solution to the existing challenge.
