In the article "Food: Too Good to Waste Challenge" by Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) a growing concern of food wastage in Arizona and the rest of America has been discussed. The article explains that people struggle with wastage in their homes every week and research indicates that 25% of the total food purchased is thrown away and this translates to 300 pounds per person per year. It further goes ahead to explain the tips that can be helpful in the management of food waste. One of the suggestions is to take the six-week challenge to establish which type of food is frequently thrown from home and this will help cut down the food that is wasted. Another tip is to shop according to the meal plan for the week so that only what is needed and can be consumed is purchased. Similarly, it suggests that food should be stored well so that it stays longer and keeping track of the food that might expire soon is also an excellent way to manage food shortage.

The article presents a Telos rhetorical appeal because it is intentional about informing the audience or people of Arizona on how best to cut down on food wastage. The purpose is achieved because the problem has not only been highlighted but solutions offered. The ADEQ organization has written the article in collaboration with the Environmental protection agency (EPA), and this demonstrates the rhetorical appeal of Ethos as it reflects the expertise and sound knowledge of the authors. It gives the article substance because a reputable organization writes it and therefore the validity of the information is guaranteed.

The article "Arizona Food Waste Policy" by ReFED explores the policies that can be implemented to reduce food wastage in Arizona. It explains that one of the reasons why people throw food is because they rely on the expiry dates labeled on packing containers which in the real sense are meant to give information quality of food and not food safety. Arizona has therefore rendered the dates void expect on infant formulas, and this is one of the strategies that help reduce food wastage. Similarly, it has also explored the concept of liability protection which makes food donors to shy away from giving food to the needy for fear of liability. To help the donors not throw away food but instead donate it to the needy a protection liability act which is Bill Emerson good Samaritan food donation act which was passed to enable ease in the distribution of food and reduce shortage. Similarly, the introduction of tax incentives which have made food donations slightly cheaper and more economical in purchase and delivery and in this case food that would have otherwise been thrown away because of fear for expiry is donated to the needy people.

The article depicts the ethos appeal as the author is a reputable organization which is widely known for doing research that helps in reducing food wastage. Similarly, the use of ethos is evident because of the information given is based on proper use of economic and legal disciplines such as tax incentives and different acts. Similarly, the logos appeal has been appropriately used as the author tries to convince the audience using facts and figures to confirm the validity of the information and the need for urgent action to be taken. The appeals help reinforce my ethos as it gives me more insight on food wastage and the different ways to solve the problem.
