Having accepted the honor to come speak in front of the Legislature concerning the contemporary debate on whether to pass the new Constitution of the United States, it is perhaps my responsibility to observe with the proposal of innumerable gentlemen whose judgment and character I profoundly respect, and who have encouraged that this would be the right occasion to present information that will set out to elucidate and educate the arrangements and principles of the constitution that has been acceded to the contemplation of the United States. It will be orthodox to point out that the Union acts to safeguard against domestic faction and insurrection.

The United States' political system prominently figures federalism. The federal design is subjected to dividing powers between the two levels of government, as the constitution proposes. The interests of the citizens are safeguarded and a stronger union is created. Among the many leads pledged by a well-structured Union, no other merits developed more accurately, as compared to its norm to control and break the violent faction. The confusion, instability, and injustice instigated into public councils, have been the reason respected governments have perished. Great lessons should be learned from that. As expected and wished for, the improvements made by the United States Constitution would not be warranted, even though they cannot be admired.

Many complaints are heard everywhere among the citizens, the friends of private and public faith, and from personal and public liberty, that the governments are not stable, and the good of the public is disregarded among the conflicts of the opposing parties. Nevertheless, it is a wish we presume, that the complaints had no basis, the findings of the facts that are known cannot allow us to deny the fact that to some degree, the complaints are true. On a candid review of our position, some of the concerns have been charged under government operations. Domestic factions and insurrection result in undomesticated swings and tapered interests in the governments, such as debt abolition, by a faction of people who have debts.

There are two ways we can deal with the domestic factions. The removal of factions is either by controlling the effects of the factions or by removing the causes. The best way to destroy a faction is to limit and destroy the liberties that come with it. Let us compare the scenario to demolishing oxygen because it charges the fire. Oxygen on the other hand also supports life. There will be different opinions in our society because different people have different abilities which results in different levels of property and wealth, and therefore dissimilar interests, as property division is what creates these factions. The only way to prevent the factions would be the destruction of all private property and coerce all citizens to have the same interests, assets, and wealth.

A larger republic is the best when it comes to controlling factions. Each representative with a large constituency has more responsibility to prove to the citizens that they are moral because they will not have ample time fooling them. It is easier to keep in touch with the local interests as it will prevent corrupt politicians from tricking the citizens into voting or them. Nonetheless, the representatives will not be entrapped by the people and their interests. With a diverse and large republic, there is a wide variety of factions, which makes it hard for a representative to claim the majority. A republic that extends over a wide area makes it hard for faction members to communicate, and oppression is coordinated when they are spread out. The representatives might not have a single idea that they have a majority of the people.

Two methods can be applied to control the factions. The first method is to prevent a single faction from gaining major popularity because a minority faction reflects the minority vote. The second method is to control the ability of the majority faction to act. Poor democracy is vulnerable to majority factions. The factions will always appear and as soon as they are in power, their authority will not be checked and thus, the minority will be suppressed. Our republic has to check for factions through the delegation of responsibilities to an appointed body of citizens and being able to serve a wide range of people. Through the election of moral and patriotic leaders to represent the citizens, the legislature refines and elevates the public view which keeps the citizens aligned towards the good of the public more successfully than just pure democracy.

Factions are part and parcel of human nature which may lead to oppression rather than a collaboration of the reciprocal goods. The only way to deal with factions is by controlling the effects because factions will always be brought up in politics when the legislations comprise of citizens who are acting in their interests in a position to readily pass judgment, and make laws regarding those interests, at other people’s expense.

Conclusion

Finally, even though the projections I have made might not preserve the union wholly, through modern times, there is a need for more balances and checks. For a well-structured union, a republican solution is preferable for a republican government. The degree of pride and pleasure we feel as republicans is the same pride and pleasure that is supposed to cherish the spirit and support the Federalist characters.
