Introduction

The Greater Bay Area is an economic hub in China with great tourist potential. Macau and Zhuhai are very close geographically, and the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge is about to open to traffic. There will be great benefits and positive consequences by having a close working relationship considering Macao and Zhuhai are close geographically. There is the need to develop tourism with regional coordination and networking to avoid cases of cutthroat competition as it is at the moment because of poor working relationship. Additionally, it is critical for tourism cooperation and collaboration between the government officials and the industry players to ensure the continuity of growth and development in the region.

According to results of Game Theory research, failure to collaborate in the tourist sector leads to sub optimal achievements. Macau and Zhuhai may be facing the prisoner's dilemma at the moment but a close collaboration will benefit both by increasing revenue generated from tourism. According to Game theory, the only way that Macau and Zhuhai can avoid the prisoner's effect is deliberately working together for mutual gain. In the framework of Greater Bay Area Development Plan, Zhuhai and Macao should make efforts to enhance partnership and achieve success in the development of tourism businesses (Asia News Network 2018).

This research aims at exploring how Macau and Zhuhai can strengthen partnership and cooperation to increase their competitiveness in the market. Collaboration between the two competitors in the tourism sector can lead to a win-win effect where they get international recognition. More importantly, the research also reviews the historical relations between Zhuhai and Macao especially in the area of tourism. Additionally, the exploration seeks to establish the tourism relations today and also suggest solutions for creative solutions to the tourism in future. It also aims to fill some gaps that are there in the governance of the Macau and Zhuhai on matters related to tourism (Macau Hub 2018). The research is essential as it can help unravel some of the roadblocks to the attainment of optimal growth in Zhuhai and Macau. It can also fill the gaps by generating solutions that will be helpful to the Chinese government in formulating policies that will make China a leading tourist destination in the world.

The research study is also crucial for scholars as it enables the implementation of the concepts learned in the class. The tourists that love Zhuhai and Macau will also benefit from the findings and suggestions of the research because if implemented, they stand to get better services at an affordable price (Hsu & Gu 2010).
