Introduction
News is information concerning contemporary events. The report is provided through different channels, e.g. word of mouth, portal systems, electronic communication and testimonies from eyewitnesses. The news covers an extensive range of topics which include; politics, education, economy, medical systems, athletic events and fashion. News is covered by different agencies, and a person follows news from his or her favorite media agency. Therefore, this paper will compare and contrast three various online news sources reporting the same story, references cited in those articles, the overall tone of the material and the meaning from each piece.
The New York Times heading is " Italy's Elderly suffer Heavy Toll as Coronavirus Spreads", (Valentina,2020) the BBC News, however, has a different title, " Italy coronavirus Deaths rise by a record of 475 in a day" (BBC, 2020). On the other hand, the CNN news reported, "Italy's coronavirus Deaths toll passes 10000 (Jason, 2020). Many are asking why he fatality rate is so high" The New York times is exact on what they are reporting and anyone reading the story has an idea what the story is about before reading the contents from the story. The person quoted in the New York Times is a club owner called Antonio di Furio. The CNN heading is broad and covers a lot of areas, and a person reading such news will read on different topics before reaching the part on how Coronavirus is affecting the elderly. The person quoted in CNN is Dr. Massimo Galli of the Sacco Hospital in Milan. BBC News mentions the death of the elderly and talks about fatalities in other countries. The person quoted in BBC news is Mike Ryan who is the Emergency director of WHO.
In all the reports from the three news sources, the tone is sympathetic and sad. However, the articles differ in the way they present the information to the public. The New York Times is exact and precise about its information; thus, a person understands faster what the article is about while the BBC is vague and not specific on its topic. The CNN, however, is extensive but has subtopics where it specifies on different issues. The similarity occurred when all the news channels mentioned covering the same story on the Coronavirus pandemic. Each article is presented in a way that depicts a different meaning from each other. The New York Times shows how the elderly are affected by the virus and ways to avoid getting infected; the CNN focuses on different aspects of the illness such as preventive measures while the BBC reports on the Coronavirus cases in Europe.
Conclusion
In summary, news comparison is an effective way to get news from different sources. Through comparing the stories, one has a better understanding of which channel offers the best news. Therefore, through these comparisons, people get to understand how different channels report their news.
