Ap, T. (2016). Tattoo Artist Dr. Woo Taps Into Fashion Scene, Collaborations. WWD. Retrieved on June 6, 2017, from http://wwd.com/eye/lifestyle/dr-woo-taps-fashion-collaborations-10689345/In this article, Ap argues that tattooing is popular in Asia because it gives people an opportunity to customize their identity. She supports her argument by stating that tattoos are a natural extension of a persons desire to have fashion that is customized. She further reveals that according to young Asians, their identity and how they are perceived by other people matters a lot to them. It is revealed that the popularity of tattoos in Asia has been partially stifled because of the association of tattoos with the Yakuza criminal gang. Although this article does not provide a lot of details about tattooing in Asia, it reveals that tattooing as a professional can be lucrative by giving an example of Dr. Woo, a top notch tattoo artist who has tattooed the likes of Kendall Jenner and Ellie Goulding. I can use this article to encourage any young person who is interested in pursuing tattooing as a profession to take it more serious.

Laura, O. (2015). Tattoo culture in Asia. Painful pleasures. Retrieved on June 6, 2017, from http://info.painfulpleasures.com/blogs/tattoo-culture-asiaIn this article, Laura argues that tattooing is more popular in Asia because it has been part of different Asian cultures for thousands of years. According to Laura, tattooing as a form of art has been celebrated in Asia for thousands of years. Apparently, Asians were the first to adopt the art of tattooing. She supports this argument by stating that one of the earliest recordings in the world about tattoo art comes from Japan and it has been established that the art dates back to 3,000 B.C. Around 3,000 B.C, the Japanese had a habit of putting clay figurines that were either painted or had facial tattoos that were engraved in their tombs. Old Asian mummies that date back to 2,000 B.C have been found with tattoos. She further reveals that Old Russian mummies that date back to 385 B.C have been found with tattoos. The article reveals that the first written reference about tattoos is a reference to tattoos in Japan. The article reveals that Asian inspired tattoos have played a major role in uniting people of different cultures, sexes, and races in Asia. It is revealed that in ancient civilization, the Japanese used tattoos for self-decoration and not for spiritual purposes. In the contemporary age, tattoos in Japan are used for both self-embellishment and for spiritual purposes (to ward off against evil). It is revealed that the Western culture was infiltrated by the Japanese type of tattooing in the late 19th century. Although, this article does not reveal the reason criminal gangs in China have an obsession with tattooing. I can use this article as a source of information that proves why tattoos are more popular in Asia than anywhere else in the world.

Liang, L.L. (2015). Good girls, not gangsters? Tattoos no longer taboo in China. CNN. Retrieved on June 6, 2017, from http://edition.cnn.com/2015/08/23/asia/china-tattoos/index.htmlIn this article, Liang reveals that tattoos were for many years stigmatized in China. Tattoos were for many years in China associated with criminals, prisoners, and vagabonds. However, with the influence of musicians, sports stars, and entertainers, tattoos have become accepted in China, in recent years. Individuals who belong to the younger generation are the ones who have become more accepting of tattoos. Tattoo parlors have become popular in China in recent years. He supports his revelation by revealing that young people in China and Asia view tattoos as a way in which one can forge his or her identity. Given that young Asians are so much conscious of their identity that is why tattooing has become more popular in Asia. He further reveals that tattooing has become so much popular in China to the extent that there continuous to be a development of new unique tattooing styles. Although this article is not more detailed, the information it provides can make a reader understand why tattoos are more popular in Asia, more so among the younger generation. I can use the information to understand more about tattooing culture in Asia.

Qiuyi, T. (2016). A tattoo renaissance, in staid Vietnam. Channel news Asia. Retrieved on June 6, 2017 from http://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/asiapacific/a-tattoo-renaissance-in-staid-vietnam-7995340In this article, Qiuyi argues that tattoos are more popular in Asia because the younger generation of Asians finds tattoos to be cool and hippy. Tattoos are popular among Asians urban youth and the growing middle class. She supports her argument by stating that a tattoo renaissance is going on in Asia and it is being fuelled by Asians urban young and hippy generation. Qiuyi goes ahead to assert that tattooing is so popular in Asia to the extent that Vietnam organized its first international tattoo convention in 2016. It is revealed that tattooing was once associated with criminals and prostitutes, but this has since changed. Qiuyi reveals that Vietnam is currently undergoing a tattoo boom. I can use this article to find out the current status of tattooing in Asia.

Wyne, A. (2017). Tods Fetes Tattoo-Themed Collaboration in Paris. WWD. Retrieved on June 6, 2017 from http://wwd.com/fashion-news/fashion-scoops/paris-fashion-week-autumn-2017-tods-party-tattoo-themed-collaboration-10832741/In this article, Wyne argues that people get tattoos because tattoos are a personal thing. He states that most people who get tattoos are avid fans of body art. He supports his argument by stating that tattoos are addictive and when someone starts having them, there is a likelihood that this may go on and on. He also states that tattoos are also a representation of a persons special moments, special people, and special things. Although this article reveals that most people get tattoos because it is a personal thing, the article does not elaborate on a connection that exists between a persons personality and his or her tattoos. I can use this article to convince people who are elusive with ink art to embrace tattooing.
