Why People Choose Child and Youth Care Worker as Their Career?

Children are the future survival and development of humankind. They are the mediums of transferring centuries of humankind knowledge to future generations. For this reason, it is important to invest in the children's survival through quality education and good health. Healthy children can reach their full potential, and in turn, attain big accomplishments in their lives. In today's society, there are numerous health issues that face young growing children in different parts of the society. Such issues can be controlled or regulated by youth care workers and other qualified medical practitioners in the society.

Purpose Statement

The purpose of this research study is to understand the choice of child and youth care work (CYC) as a profession for the two participants of an interview session conducted the research in March 2016. At this stage of the research, the topic why people choose to become CYC workers will be defined as a phenomenological research. A phenomenological research is a study that strives to understand the person's perceptions, perspectives as well as an understanding of a particular phenomenon. In this context, the research will attempt to understand the research participants perceptions, perspectives, and understanding pertaining their choice of the CYC work profession.

Brief Description of Its Sociological Relevance

This topic of research is important for this study because the CYC workers are persons who work with disturbed children and adolescents in the society. Such are persons who are affected by various emotional, physical as well as behavioral problems. These problems may arise within the kids' families, learning institutions among other environments. The problems are caused by factors such as drugs and alcohol abuse and conflicts with law among others. They are problems that required specialized care due to the fragile nature of childhood development. The CYC workers are part of an interdisciplinary team that serves young kids, adolescents, and their families.

How Are Children Important?

Children are important to both the global economies and societies. The economy of a nation is promoted by a continued performance of qualified personnel working in different sectors of the economy. A good economy of a nation translates into an improved cost of living for all the inhabitants of different nations. It also nurtures the quality of life for the society members. Such a competent workforce can only be obtained from training young children, since their childhood until they are fully grown. This way, they become professionals in varying career paths, which all contribute to the economic development of a nation.

How Children Affect the Environment

Children affect their environment in different ways. This is through the various ways through which they interact with various stimuli around them. Such interactions can either have positive or negative effects on the environment. Among the positive effects, kids can promote the growth and development of various plants around them. Such are the kids who find it fun to take care of plants or flowers near their environment. Nevertheless, they can also cause a degradation of their environment. This may be through eroding the grounds surface, defecation on the soil and trashing on the compound among others.

Diseases and Disabilities that Affect Children

The topic is also important for the research because the CYC workers have a strong role in treating and managing childrens diseases and disabilities. Such are the common diseases that affect kids at a young age. Such ailments include fever, food allergies, mumps, measles, poliomyelitis, rubella and whooping cough. Others are parainfluenza, group B streptococcus infection, tetanus, diphtheria and gonorrhea infection of the newborn among others. Apart from the diseases, kids can also experience disabilities while still at their tender age.

The common disabilities that affect young children include cerebral palsy, congenital abnormality, down syndrome, spina bifida, dyslexia, dyscalculia, and epilepsy. Kids are also affected by autism, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, intellectual disability, motor dysfunction and meningomyelocele. Some of the children can also suffer from statutory blindness, pituitary gland disorders, thyroid gland disorders and adrenal glands disorders. Also, children could also suffer from a central auditory processing disorder, aphasia, autism spectrum disorders and fetal alcohol problem among others.

Services that Children Need in the Society

There are various services in the society that can be offered to growing children. Such services are meant to improve the general welfare of the kids, more so in terms of their physical and emotional health. Some of the services offered to kids may include child protection services, assistance services offered to children with special needs and disabilities. They may also require family support services such as day care facilities for kids under five, parenting assistance classes and practical home help services.

The second question was; how did the participants finally made a decision to become a CYC worker? The questions formed the discussion for this research study and were answered using the support of the responses attained from the participants during the interview session.

Theoretical Framework and/or Concepts that Guide the Study

The theoretical framework of the topic of this research study will be divided into three parts. The parts will be commented on in chronological order. The first part will be the methods section part that will illustrate the methodology that guides data collection using the Holloways concepts. It will also illustrate how the participants met the criteria for a minimal risk research and the procedures used to protect the participants anonymity and confidentiality of the data attained. This part will be followed by a description of the sampling procedures used, participants recruited and justification for selecting these participants for research.

The first part will be finalized by a description of the data collection and data analysis procedures used in the research. The second part will be findings part, which will give a comprehensive summary of the findings of the research and a discussion of how the findings relate to the selected theoretical framework of the research. The final part will be the conclusion section, which will offer a brief summary of the findings of the research and a reflexive commentary about the study. The reflexive commentary will summarize the challenges encountered during the research.
