Introduction
A number of people are active community service members. These services not only allow individuals in the involvement in the community, they also aid in helping those in need. Some people make it a necessity in high school institutions to engage in community services, others think that institutions are forcing students to volunteer. I think this policy of 100 hours community service is fully applicable because students grow into more thoughtful and responsible adults.
Benefits of Community Service
For starters, students discover different types of careers from the community service. They might engage in volunteering actions that might involve nursing, teaching, among many others, and develop the skills and expertise to their career fields. Also, students learn to work with adults. They can engage with adults and know how adults run their day to day lives, how they think and how they perform their careers. Another thing, when developing job skills, they learn about timeliness, following directions or instructions, as well as completing projects. Additionally, 100 hours are manageable, as students are given space to study, perform their daily tasks and also engage in this activity. Community service will occur only a few hours every week when the students are free and thus we can regard it as a co-curriculum activity.
Choice and Interest in Volunteer Programs
High school children also get the chance to get involved in a variety of community services and are allowed to choose volunteer programs that are of interest to them. For instance, high school pupils aid in nursing homes as well as day-care centers. They also do teaching and work as hospital aides. Such students also clean roadways and improve playgrounds. Thus, they have their programs of choice depending on their fields of interests and will not look like they were forced.
Likewise, whenever these high school students engage in community services, they grow into more confident and active adults. This service improves their self-esteem. When students start volunteering as teens, they are probably growing to volunteer when they grow up into adults. Community services for adults have made students turn out to be more active in college volunteer programs. More so, teens who involve in volunteering services gain more interest in local matters. A student who is involved in community service has way more advantages compared to the one that does not. They appear to be sharper as these programs sharpen their skills that can be applied not only to jobs but also in education. Their brains are more active and can easily understand what is taught in schools. They also tend to be more flexible and hardworking compared to students who are not involved in community service. They can study and still perform numerous other tasks without restrains as their bodies are active and more flexible. What is more, before graduation, high school students will have graduated while they have known what career to engage in and have perfected their skills while knowing what is it they really want to do in life.
Conclusion
It is clear that community service plays a vital role in the education of teens' high school learning. These programs not only play a positive role to students when they are young, but it continues to positively affect them even when they grow into adults. Community service, no matter the 100 hours required, ought not to be just a graduation requirement, but it must be made as a way of life.
