Introduction
Langewiesche explains in details the whole scenario on the sinking of Estonia Ferry in his book The Outlaw Sea. He describes the un-governability of different laws of nature and laws by men in the sea. The ferry which is 510 feet long causes the demise of a lot of people in Estonia reviving the wounds of the Soviet Union attacks ( Langewiesche 101). Langewiesche describes how free economy facilitated free trade in the Swedish port and the Estonia coast, and there were smuggling and profit targeted business on the beach. The Estonia ship itself represented success in the region, and he explains that the vessel was third-hand property and was just painted white to stand bright and unique in the harbor. Langewiesche reveals that whatever people thought was a blessing to the nation towards the ship, it was just an overstatement. Langewiesche says that the ferry just seemed big to overcome the enormous storm, but it could not overcome the fate of the tragedy. According to Langewiesche the ship was old and could not perform some task as people of Estonia wanted. The thriving economy pushed the traders to work day and night with the old boat despite its condition.

Langewiesche is concerned about the chaos and crime that happens in the world for the greed of material things. He wants us to understand that the demise of the Estonian people in the ship was something that could be handled before by the governing bodies and the managers of the transport (Langewiesche 103). He reveals to us that the merchant ship that operates on the ocean encompassed crew from an impoverished region of millions of sailors, the sailors could work on any condition to earn a living. He points out the importance of management that the Estonia ship failed, and he addresses the need to have transparent management. The Estonia ship crews were employed by third world agents who were paid by dubious firms. The administration accepted any nationality that a worker came from. Art the rescue time there was problems in communication that delayed the rescue process. He wants us to understand the importance of having management that respects those regulations from maritime and the staffs working on board.
Langewiesche wants us to understand the magnitude of irresponsibility played by management and the investigating team. He wants us to get a clear picture of the chaotic and crime flooded world. He describes the bureaucratic incompetence, and he also shows the way journalists are switched to believe something away from truth happened. According to Langewiesche, about 137 survivors emerged from the tragedy, and several survivors thought that capsizing took a shorter time than expected (Langewiesche 107). The survivors told the Swedish police that metal crashes accompanied the crash; Langewiesche was indicating that the ship was old and could not survive a manageable storm. Langewiesche wants us to get the greed the management had towards the free market, and he describes the scenario Estonia landed the Baltic as a silent monument symbolizing its importance to the sailors. Generally, he wants to us to understand the nature of the world economy, the dependents of the economy and the way dependants run from responsibilities which later affect them.
The Situation of Estonia According To the Outlaw Sea
The Estonia ship was perceived as a powerful ship due to the economic trends in the region. The vessel was operating at the time the people in the society needed it, it was only physically able to handle tasks in the economy, but its mechanical status was questioning (Langewiesche 110). The management wanted the sailors to operate with the ship ignoring its situation. However, people in the regions and other neighboring region wanted were poor and did not have other option. The management could ignore the shipping status to the extent of painting the ship to look better in the harbor. Like regular operational days, the vessel experienced some challenges in the Baltic region of the ocean and broken some metal parts and later capsized. The management did not want to be associated with the demise; they even wanted to escape investigation from the law enforcers. Several law enforcers knew that the ship was not in good condition too.
Factors Contributing To Confusion on the Estonia Situation
The first confusion was evident in the physical appearance of the ship which unmatched the mechanical status of the vessel. The sailors failed to reach the life jackets and the lifeboats, the investigators failed to understand how the storm caused such a tragedy breakage for the boat. Another state of confusion happened when the local authorities made severe mistakes on the number of passengers and crew on board. Consecutively, the name was reported with the same error in the news, and the truth finally came when it was known that there were 137 survivors and the ship had carried 959 people on board. The survivors gave a contradicting report regarding the demise; they blamed the service staff for failing to handle emergency matters whereas the local authorities assumed that the ship was on a good condition.
As the prime minister order that the Joint Accident Investigation Commission would investigate the scenario, the aftermath of the body found a different result from the situation(Langewiesche 136). The JAIC was made of government officials and the maritime officials from three different countries, and the body found that the ship was not on a good condition. The stability of the bow could not handle the force of the waters. They compared the situation with the British herald of free enterprise ship which also submerged in the waters in 1987, but the results were different. The last confused resulted from the unrealistic Finnish survey that provided different coordinates in the location of the boat.
The Significance of Langewiesche Teaching on the Complex Situation
Langewiesche is telling us that some tragedies can happen with our knowledge when we ignore them and in other situation, they occur in due to the failure of the bodies in authorities. He educates us that the stateless and lawlessness in a case is what leads to fatal outcomes in society (Langewiesche 105). He says that the management knew the status of the ship, but they just wanted to earn from the operations for a long time without minding the final results. Regarding Langewiesche education, privacy is not the only problems in the waters, and the maritime regulatory bodies must consider environmental situations and security concerns in the transport section. Langewiesche tells us to watch the so-called freedom of the seas which is ironic to chaos and crime from the management. Generally, he wants to say to us to become more vigilant on the things that can cause trouble for us. Additionally, he says that several problems are caused by the people we give the mandate to do things for us. Conclusively the society should report matters like such to the relevant authorities to ensure no future problems.
