Introduction
Sen. Booker opens his address by giving focus to the need for thankfulness for the little actions which people extend in one's way to success. His first message is that people ought to realize how interconnected the world is and that real knowledge lies in reaching out to others. The second message of his address is that one is never incapable of giving, and that small acts of kindness and compassion speak volumes in themselves. The audience is enlightened on what must be done for the knowledge gained in the classroom to be meaningful. The speech is inspirational in the sense that the speaker offers himself as a testimony of how the message transitions one from a low point to the point of elevation.

The central characteristic of an inspirational speech is its intention to motivate the audience to consider a particular path towards professional or personal growth. This element is present in Sen. Booker's speech. He offers his personal and professional growth to his choice of a particular path. He also refers to individuals who are revered for their roles in society and associates their success with the path he champions.
Specific Examples of Inspiration
The first inspiring instance in the speech is how just small acts of kindness and compassion elevated Gandhi to his adored status. The second instance is when Sen. Booker uses the examples of how small cases of sacrifice speak volumes, such as giving away a pair of socks to someone that is deserving and sharing French fries. From the outset, the senator set the tone of his message by being thankful for his audience and everyone that made the event a success. Secondly, he begins by using his personal experiences and how he derives inspiration from others. In using his experiences, he can express his emotions, mainly when talking about his deceased friend Frank. This narration provides him the opportunity to employ both verbal and nonverbal communication. He is also able to address themes that the audience is acquainted with in a manner that draws their attention and he pauses and engages them actively throughout the speech.
