Introduction
Parents are the role models of their children since they play a crucial role in their lives. These parents are the first teacher to their children as they acquire and learn various attributes from their actions in a family. In families where both parents are at work, the parent-child relationship is impacted both negatively and positively. Some parents tend to allocate less time to spent with their children thus affecting their kids' relationship. Most children are left with the caregivers during the day while the parents are at the workplace. In the past, other family members participated in the bringing up of the children. Currently, the nuclear families have increased throughout the country making the working parents have no family members to leave with their children. Therefore, due to the rise in the number of working parents, there rose the question of whether the parents are working affect the children's lives.
Reasons Why Both Parents Should Work
To Protect Their Career
Parents work so that they can continue climbing the corporate ladder in their jobs. This helps the parents to compete with their colleagues who do not take-offs from the workplace. The parents usually protect their careers so that they cannot be replaced by others and ensure they have a continuous flow of income. Parents who take offs to ensure they care for their children do not have security to their careers making them live in worries of being fired (Brilli, Del Boca& Pronzato, 2016). Also, through work, both parents can attain the health insurance for their family thus not spending much money when trying to acquire medical care.
For Acquisition of the Retirement Benefits
Women in the United States retire having lower social security than the men since women work a few years before retiring. Individuals who usually quick working for more than five years, tend to acquire a lower retirement income. Parents prefer working and leaving the children with the caregivers so that they can receive adequate income as their retirement benefits in the future (Brilli et al., 2016). The advantages attained after both parents have retired can be used to sustain the family and educate their children.
To Ensure the Improvement of the Child’s Development
Children who spend much of their time with one of the parents tend to develop a closer relationship one parent that is either the mother or father. It is essential for the child to be taken in daycare to socialize and learn social skills with others. This helps in developing the child's interpersonal skills in communication hence can interact freely with people (Brilli et al., 2016). In the daycare centers, the child can get involved in various activities which enhance the child's development.
The Parents’ Mental Health
Some parents cannot stay t home with their children due to their mental health. These parents need to interact with other adults as they socialize which acts as a form of therapy. For example, a mother can earn a low income of about $30 which is less than what the child spends at the daycare (Brilli et al., 2016). The mother would prefer paying for the daycare since it is cheaper than what she can spend when acquiring therapy. Therefore the workplace helps in rectifying the mental condition among the parents who experience these conditions.
How Working of Both Parents Affects the Children
Bonding
Parents, especially the mothers develop worries that leaving their children during the working hours can affect the child-parent relationship. The connection with the child does not need to take the whole day as some parents think. A child who spends most of the time with the caregiver will develop a closer relationship with them than their parents. To establish a closer bond with the child it requires consistency and love from the parents (Coleman, 2018). Therefore, the relationship of the caregiver to the child cannot supersede that of the tot's parents since they eat meals together and read stories before going to bed which enhances their relationship.
Stress
A parent who is distressed or stressed out tends to affect the child while they are at home. Child care plays a vital role in minimizing stress among the children since they tend to share and interact with other kids at the care centers. For example, a mother who suffer from depression tends to affect their kids behavior leading to a poor child's development (Coleman, 2018). Children spending most of their time in the childcare, the maternal depression tends to become mitigated thus showing less behavioral issues.
Childcare
The most crucial decision which the parents can make is determining the situation of kid care. The childcare centers are places where the child develops various behaviors depending on the way they are treated. Parents are supposed to choose a childcare center, grandma or nanny who is responsive and creates a stimulating environment to the kid (Coleman, 2018). The children require learning and experimenting with different things which are at their disposal hence getting a loving, and caring caregiver will be important. Therefore, children tend to benefit from the learning environments of the preschools and care centers when they are three years old.
