Introduction

While humankind has dramatically advanced over the years, issues such as oppression, suppression, domination, alienation, and inequality have not been conclusively addressed yet. As such, there is a need for reforms to tackle these issues. Research offers an opportunity to understand these issues better and develop solutions to address them. However, there exist political undertones to all these issues, and hence research must be connected with a political agenda to bring about change. To this end, the advocacy and participatory worldview most closely aligns with my perspective of the problems facing the world today. This worldview advances that research inquiry should be interwoven with politics or a political agenda (Creswell, 2009). It primarily focuses on groups that are disenfranchised or marginalized. This worldview gives the participants a voice, raises their consciousness, and advances their agenda. Ultimately, this worldview champions reform.

Philosophical Worldview

Philosophical worldview (paradigm) is among the essential elements of research. Understanding the directional relationship between philosophical worldview and research methodology helps the researcher gather what is known about a topic, how that knowledge was obtained, as well as ways in which more information on the issue can be acquired (Petersen & Gencel, 2013). For instance, using philosophical worldviews that believe in only one objective truth such as positivism, the researcher is guided to use quantitative approaches, which involve counting, measuring, or comparing empirical data. In contrast, using philosophical worldviews that believe in multiple truths such as constructivism or idealism, the researcher will be guided to use qualitative approaches which involve interpretation of understandings.

Christian Worldview

Generally, Christian and philosophical worldviews are incongruent. The major difference between them is the positions held on the existence of an origin. The Christian worldview is anchored on the belief of the existence of a Trinitarian God whose justice and love establishes universal moral order and defines all the aspects of the creation (Beardsley, 2020). The quest for knowledge is also believed to have a stable origin which is the Word of God. However, philosophical worldviews, such as the postmodern worldview, hold that truth has its origin in the world and is produced by different forms of constraints (Bressan, 2016).

Conclusion

Thus, different societies are taken to have their own sets of truth. Their approaches to truths between the two worldviews are also methodologically and theoretically different. It should, however, be noted that the pursuit of truth due to the limitedness of humans is a shared commonality.
