Raster graphics also referred to as bitmap graphics, are a form of digital image that use a small rectangular pixel, or even picture elements arranged in a grid formation to signify an image. The graphic form is mainly used to display images of continuous tones such as shaded drawings or photographs combined with other detailed images. It can display this since its format can support a large variety of colors and depict elusive graduated tones (Xu, 2016). Roster graphics was mainly founded through television technology, with the images mainly constructed greatly, like the pictures observed in a television. The form is mainly made up of collections of tiny and uniformed sized pixels arranged in a grid of two-dimensional columns plus rows.

On the other hand, vector graphics which is a form that uses mathematical equations to come up with diverse designs. The mathematical calculations are then decoded to points that are linked by lines or even curves (Lopes, 2019). The lines and curves are also recognized as vector paths, which summarizes all the various types seen in the vector graphic. Hence the vector graph can be scaled in any size without interfering with the image quality plus the small size files (.cgm, .xml).

Another difference is that the raster graphics are made of programs based on pixels or even captured with a scanner or camera i.e., jpg, png, and gif (Peng, 2019). They are mostly used on webs. At the same time, the other form is made up of vector software hence commonly used for the images that are used on the physical products. The vector graphics are also used in 3D graphics, engineering as well as CAD.

When raster programs have used an image is painted on the viewer’s mind, and this is similar to someone dipping a brush in paint and exactly painting what has been observed (Hou, 2018). A variety of colors can be used for transition softening, where colors changes from one to another. While in vector graphics, the programs can come up with color gradients on a single shape though the effects of raster graphics. The vector graphics that contain gradients have the two forms of graphic elements hence not suitable for a process that entails 100% real vector art like an engraving. Some of the software applications that can be used together with vector and raster graphics include GIMP, Adobe, InkScape, illustrator, and CorelDraw. They assist both the graphic forms to bring out a good and clear picture of what is being shown or demonstrated.

Vector graphics are easier to use because of their smaller files, which usually contain less data than raster, which is a lot of data. Vector graphics have lesser but crucial data’s in them. Another reason why vector graphics can be advisable is that it is more flexible than raster since it is easily scaled up and down without experiencing any loss of image quality. Finally, the type of graphics (vector) has smoother lines as compared to raster, which has square pixels. The straight lines, as well as sweeping curves in vector graphics, make it better. All of these explanations bring out why vector graphics are preferable. The complexity of raster graphics is why it’s not a preferable choice though it can also be used on other occasions. With its complexity, it can make someone use much time to understand how it works, but with vector graphics, one can understand it faster without straining to identify how it works.

Conclusion

In conclusion, graphics have assisted in many ways since they have been used in businesses to create logos as well as print layouts. The tech experts have used the vector graphic form for this purpose. On the other hand, raster graphics are usually used mainly for non-line image arts, mainly digitalized photographs. They bring a clear image hence is why artists use them in their works since with the graphic effects in the raster graphics, what the artists want to showcase always comes out clearly and the viewer’s really love the 3D view since it comes out in a real form.
