How has the makeup of sports teams changed over the years, and why do you think this is? Players, Owners, Coaches, and Staff should be considered.
The make-up of sports teams has changed over the years in several ways. Basketball, as one of the sports teams, has evolved in different ways. Some of these changes include how sporting events are normally conducted. Unlike before whereby sports activities were organized by the use of traditional means currently, sports associations such as National Basketball Association (NBA) have emerged, and its role is to take part in organizing basketball competition, therefore, leading to the generation of more income that can be used to in the establishments of more playground to accommodate for both players and the spectators. Moreover, there is an increase in salaries among the basketball players, from a salary of $100,000 to an approximate figure of around $40.23million per year. In terms of physical fitness among the basketball players, earlier the requirements for one to be allowed to participate in a basketball match, one had to fulfill requirements such as an approximate height of 6-5 feet as compared to today, whereby the estimated height for a basketball player is 6-7 feet higher.
Sports rules have also changed for instance hand-check penalties that were initially valued were totally banned in the year 2004 by the Board of NBA and replaced with rules that favor all players in the field to avoid other players taking advantage of their fellow colleagues by denying them a right to offer defense in anywhere whenever they are attacked. Sports analysis has also emerged whose roles are to select players on the basis of their performance and taking part in the signing of any kind of player’s contracts. Gender equality has also been enhanced when it comes to sporting events because women and men are treated equally in terms of the distribution of resources. Also, women's participation in the field of sport has increased due to their involvement in most sporting events such as soccer leagues, thus helping them to sustain their lives (Fink, 2015). Furthermore, there has been an increase in the number of women representatives in the sports industry, unlike before, whereby women had limited access to the sports industry. Players should be considered to ensure that their needs are well gathered for by their respective sports teams. Owners should also be considered because they are the one who engages in conducting and hosting of any sporting events. Also, coaches play a critical role by ensuring better performance in sports teams they are coaching, and therefore, they should be considered by being given better wages to motivate them to work towards the attainment of success. Sports staff should also be considered because they take part in ensuring the smooth running of any sporting events by laying down guidelines to be followed.
Player Selection, free agency(pros)/transfer(college)
When it comes to players selection, it is normally done by sports analysis whereby they engage in thorough research for them to find out the performance of the target players. The free agency helps the college players to market themselves, therefore, assisting them to join teams that are well paying (Leung, & Joseph, 2014). Transfers are usually done by sports clubs’ owners after an agreement has been arrived at.
Professional leagues have different rules for eligibility for the draft of the US and the selection of foreign players. Is this fair? What are your feelings on free agency in pro sports and transfer in college sports?
I consider the rules offered by the professional leagues concerning the eligibility for the draft of the US and selection of foreign players as fair because it helps the sports leagues keenly look into the performances of each player before reaching an agreement, especially when it comes to the signing of new players. My feelings towards the free agency in pro sports are that it is advantageous to the players since it acts act as a marketing tool for them. In terms of transfer in college sports, I feel that free agency is playing a key role in exposing the talents of young players, thus helping them to market themselves.
