Qualitative research designs is a procedure that is used to undertake research in fields that do not involve figures and calculations and the details collected cannot be quantified. The quality if the research design determines if the details collected will serve the right purpose and whether they will lead to the making of the right decisions (Levitt, Motulsky, Wertz, Morrow, & Ponterotto, 2017). One of the criteria is the conformability which the findings objectivity and the researcher can make use of the audit trail and reflectivity to realize this measure. The researcher is supposed to make an examination of their thoughts, opinions, and feelings and have an understanding of the preconceptions when they are undertaking the data collection and analysis processes. The reflexive journal will play a critical role in ensuring that the research process remains within the necessary guidelines (Golafshani, 2003). The other strategy to evaluate the quality of qualitative research is the credibility which involves the determination of the way that the study findings makes a representation of data. Member checking and debriefing are some of the tools that are relied upon to ensure credibility is realized. Through peer debriefing, two or more researchers can undertake the process of data analysis and then compare the results that they obtain. Additionally, the data collected and analyzed can be presented to the participants, and the researcher may request them to confirm if the results presented are about their experiences (Smith, 1984). The. One of the assumptions held in qualitative research systems is that variables have an objective reality, and they can be identified and this world well with the evaluation criteria considering that looking at the issue if the member checking. The researcher will have to present the finds to the participants to make identification on whether the information gathered and analyzed has any relation with their experiences.
One of the ethical issues that is likely to arise in qualitative research is the conflict that arises from competing claims. Considering that qualitative research relies on opinions that cannot be quantified, there is the possibility of conflict occurring. It might adversely affect the decision making process since it will not be possible to make the right conclusion (Creswell & Poth, 2017). The fact that qualitative research relies on the opinion and not facts and figures means that the ideas raised in a given study process are open to suggestion and any idea raised can be said to be true so long as it is supported.
