Introduction
The information system used by my organization is the Oracle Database Management System. A database management system is defined as the system software used in the creation and management of databases (Ramakrishnan & Gehrke, 2011). The database management system provides the users as well as the programmers of my organization with systematics ways through which they can create, update, retrieve, and manage the organization's data. The system has made it possible for the users to perform operations such as creating, reading, updating, and deleting data in the various systems used within the organization such as the CRM. The Oracle Database Management system in the organization serves as the interface between the database and other end-user applications. The Database Management System ensures that there is a consistency in the organization of data.
The database management system is essential in providing a centralized view of the organizations data, which is very important for analysis to give projections and make decisions within the organization. The centralization of the data by the system enables the employees to access the data concurrently using multiple devices from any location without interference. The system is designed to limit the data for the end users regarding access and view. The limit to the data access enables the system to provide a variety of views on a single database schema. The database management system also offers the logical as well as the physical independence of data. The system is designed with capabilities to protect the users and other applications accessing the data from unauthorized access.
Components Analysis
The DBMS systems comprise various components. These components work together to perform significant tasks within the database management system environment. Some of these components include software, hardware, data, procedures, database access language, query process, runtime database manager, data manager, database engine, data dictionary, and a report writer (Coronel & Morris, 2016).
The software comprises the programs used in controlling and managing the database. The software includes the DBMS program, the network software on which the database is accessed, the Operating system on which the database is running on, as well as other application software accessing the database management software. The hardware components consist of the physical, electronic devices such as the I/O devices, the storage devices, and the computers through which the database management system can be accessed. Data is the most important component of the database management systems. The database management system is used for collecting, storing, processing, and accessing the data (Dhawan, 2010). Procedures refer to the instructions as well as the rules followed while interacting with the database management systems. The database access language is used for accessing data stored in the databases. The language is essential in entering new data, updating the existing data, and retrieving the existing ones. The query processor used in database management systems is important in the transformation of the queries from the user to the low-level instructions that can be understood by the user. The runtime database manager is important for interfacing the components of the database management system with other applications such as CRM which access the data within the database. The data manager handles data within the database through providing systems recovery allowing for the recovery of the data in cases of any failures. The system also consists of the database engine whose core services are the storage, processing, and the security of data. The database engine provides controlled access as well as a rapid transaction processing that enables the database to address critical issues that may arise due to the data consuming applications. The database management system also consists of the data dictionary which stores information about the given database. The system also has an in-built report generator which extracts information from files present within the database and displays it in a specific format (Beguerie et al., 2018).
Tools and Techniques Analysis
The database management system consists of three primary tools which include the data, the database engine, and the database schema. The data is the most important tool as it is the main reason for the existence of the database system. The database engine is responsible for the security, modification, and access of the data, while the schema defines the overall structure of the database (Bhatia & Bansal, 2015). The three tools and techniques are essential for the security, concurrency, integrity, and the administrative procedures of the data. The database engine supports administration tasks such as the change management, performance monitoring, automated rollbacks, and recovery of the data.
Conclusions
The database management system plays an integral part in the management of the organization's data. The system stores the data collected in the day to day activities of the company and provide tools such as the report writer which can be used to draw insights and come up with projections that would help the organization in making meaningful decisions.
Recommendations
Although the database engine consists of security parameters in place for protecting the data of the organization, there is a need to integrate the database management system with third-party security parameters to control how the integrated applications access and utilize the organization's data.
