Introduction

The movie "Elizabeth" is not a mere production; rather, it is associated with many emotions and colors that are saturated with the ambition being the leading aspect that places Elizabeth 1 in power (Murray 1-4). Elizabeth 1 was a naive girl at the beginning but grew to become a great strategist who made a great choice of her strategist, and by the age of 25, she was able to take the Catholic throne and make it Protestants (Murray 1-4). In her reign, she fought assassination that was eminent from the Spanish, the French, the pope, and many of her rivals that wanted her dead. She, however, ruled for 45 years, and this achievement can be attributed to the ability she had to differentiate true friends from fake ones.

The aesthetics of the story show the film to be a thriller in politics as it exceeds the audiences' expectations. It is also fearful and vibrant as a portrait of the dangerous days that existed in the kingdom (Ford 1-2). The film is an intelligent period drama that exposed different nostalgic fantasies with an atmosphere of romance and exploration of major themes that help keep it interesting. The major themes that are evident in the film include betrayal, duplicity, and ambition that affected the history of Britain and the thirst for blood that individuals in the film had.

The film also shows different sub-plots of femininity, politics, and power, which helps to create suspense to the audience. The film has a plot where Elizabeth faces different challenges from being placed under custody by Mary for being a traitor (Ford 1-2). She also struggles to protect her life and power while maintaining her independence when the courts conspired to overthrow her and possess her skills. The film has a large cast that sets the pace for the audience to understand the dark corridors of power in the England palaces and green fields.

The film displays accuracy in history as the main character of the movie "The Virgin Queen" as she is named for her lack of any interest to get married, struggles to maintain a balance between different historical niceties. The innocents were killed in wars, yet Elizabeth lacked the confidence to execute her enemies (Williams 1-2). Kapur, the director of the film, compresses all the events of the reign of Elizabeth in her first five years. Elizabeth was one of the most successful monarchs ever to rule England after she succeeded Mary, her half-sister. Kapur presented the struggles of the young queen using costume melodrama that portrayed the culture of the people in England. She had a weak army and a broke treasury, as well as the pressure to marry nobles from tight bloodlines.

The history of Elizabeth as a queen in the 16th century offers an overview of the life and character of the monarch who lacked different specific (Williams 1-2). The film, however, is lacking because most of the activities portrayed did not happen that way in the history of England. The plot is confusing as the main events of the 45 years of reigning were compressed into a period of five years (Williams 1-2). Elizabeth, a screenplay by Shekhar Kapur and writer Michael Hirst together with the supporting cast and characters, showcase major aesthetics and accuracy in historical activities in the 16th century. The major characters include Cate Blanchett as England's Queen Elizabeth 1, Geoffrey Rush as Francis Walsingham, Christopher Eccleston as the 4th Duke of Norfolk, Joseph Fiennes as the Leicester's first Earl, John Gielgud as Pope Pius V, Fanny Ardant as Mary of Guise and Richard Attenborough as the First Baron of Burghley (Williams 1-2).
