Introduction

Black Panther is a fantastic movie released in 2018. It is exceptionally well written and beautifully choreographed by Ryan Coogler. The film centers on T'Challa. After the king of Wakanda passes away, T'Challa has to return to his African ancestral nation, Wakanda, and take the mantle of a Black Panther throne left behind by his deceased father (Gray, 2018). As he takes his rightful place on the throne, he finds out that his old enemy, Killmonger, is challenging his position on the throne. T'Challa's challenger put the technologically advanced country into arms dealer, and arch enemy. T'Challa resorts to teaming up with his allies to defeat the enemies.

Ryan Coogler is not a household name, yet, he is believed to be the youngest Marvel Studio, filmmaker. He was born in May 1986 in Oakland in the state of California, USA. He married his lovely wife Zinzi in 2016. He is a writer and director of the Black Panther movie. Other works he has written and directed are Fruitvale Station (2013), and Creed (2015) (Brody, 2018).

In this movie, T'Challa is the star character. Other key supporting cast members include; Nakia, Okoye, Erik Killmonger, Shuri, and Ulysses Klaue. All these characters played their respective roles perfectly since this is not their first time to take respective starring roles in similar movies.

The movie has a vastly creative and technical undertaking from their jewelry, costume, production, designers, and stylists. The innovative aspect results in creating an entirely new world where technology and nature are intertwined. The actors' roles blend in well with this creativity. Music, too, plays its crucial role. The movie adheres to the profoundly traditional black movie music. Its soundtracks are not as an assembly of pop culture footprint music, but songs that connect the film to a shared determination used as a storytelling device, which includes tunes conveyed from the characters' view and reflects a trail of a motivated narrative with soundtracks which adheres to a diversity of styles (Gray, 2018).

The movie is significant. Rather than dodging in complicated themes of identity and race, it grapples on matters affecting the modern black life. It also touches on themes such as challenging power structures, African diaspora, absentee fathers, and traditional vs. change. Similarly, it is incredibly entertaining. The movie is based on a real event, hence historically accurate. Black Panther taps into a history of 500 years. Wakanda is not Haiti, but it is a representation of what Haiti used to be. The movie is a wish and dream spoken to the wind (Gray, 2018).

Black Panther displays a distinctive camera trick throughout the movie. The notable camera trick is the rotational shot. This is a shot taken while the camera is spinning in a circle. For instance, cinematographer Rachel employs this trick in the movie when Killmonger throws T'Challa off the cliff after he won the battle, Rachel employs the rotating shot to portray this beating in the film. The significance of the shot is that of shifting the status quo from T'Challa to Killmonger (Brody, 2018).

The movie offers us a reference to a culture close to reality. A culture which is a whirl on the Afrofuturistic type of fantasy. With it's superb-pacing and hitting scenes, its moments of drama, and comedy filled with matching soundtrack, stunning visuals sums up, Black Panther is nation-building, civil rights, family honor, and social justice superhero film.
