Introduction

Several names are used to portray the role of Mary as the mother of Jesus and also as the mother of God, as in the declaration Christ exhibited two nature that is; one human and the other divine. Mary, the mother of Jesus, was conceived by Saint Joachim and Saint Anne, who had waited and prayed for a long time for a child in a small town of Galilee, Nazareth, in a Jewish community during the rule of Herod the Great. She was the first-born child of St Anne and St Joachim and belonged to the class of peasants who acquired their livelihood through small business undertakings and agriculture. (Ionescu,5)While growing up, God was pleased with her. One day an Angel sent by the Lord appeared to her and greeted her as the favored one and progressed to tell her that she would conceive a child and give birth to the Son of God while she was still a virgin and Mary's submitted totally to the pregnancy even though she fully understood the consequences as accusations and rumors would arise. (Ionescu,5) By then, a Jewish woman, according to the culture, becoming pregnant before marriage created an awful state of affairs.

At that time, Mary was betrothed to Joseph, and when she unveiled the news to Joseph, he was hurt and confused. Therefore, Angel Gabriel appeared to him and told Joseph that Mary would become pregnant from the Lord, and she would be blessed with a son by the name Jesus, and He would save mankind from sins.

An order by the Roman emperor for a census of the people made Joseph and Mary travel to Bethlehem. After several days of traveling while pregnant, Mary and Joseph arrived in Bethlehem, and there was no place to stay as all the inn were occupied. They stayed on a stable as Mary was to go into labor at any moment. Mary went into labor, and Jesus Christ was conceived in the animal stable. (Ionescu,7)

After Jesus was born, Joseph and Mary took him for dedication at the temple, and here is where they met Simeon and declared that Jesus would be rejected in Israel and bright about joy to some people. (Ionescu,8) This dedication somewhat became her first premonition on what was to follow. Hence when Jesus grew up, His unique gifts manifested, and when her son reached manhood, Mary piloted Him in the center of his ministries.

Immaculate Conception

Immaculate conception means that Mary, the mother of Jesus, was conserved and conceived Jesus Christ without or free from the original sin; therefore, immaculate means lacking a stain. The honor of immaculate conception depicts the origin of the all-holiness of Mary as the mother of God. The freedom from the original sin thanks to Christ's liberating act, therefore, meaning that the life of Mary is intimately and permanently related to God, therefore, making her all-holly. (Most,3)

The original sin incites disarray in behavior and thought. The original sin comprises of the deficiency in the purifying Grace, and thus its stain in nature is corrupt. Therefore, the Lord preserved Mary from these flaws. (Most,3) Mary received the Grace of God from the beginning of her existence and was redeemed entirely by this Grace. She received this Grace not entirely because she was perfect, but God shone the gift of His love upon her.

Cooperation in the Redemption

The obedience of Mary to God's will when Angel Gabriel appeared to her from the very beginning created a path for salvation. The role of Mary in Redemption, which is also referred to as Marian Co-redemption that primarily engrossed upon the incarnation redemption, which was stretched to the suffering of Mary at Calvary at the end of the first millennium. Mary became the first Christian as she was the first to believe her Son Jesus Christ as the Savior, and she was in favor of God, therefore, is the first Christian. Mary was the only discipline of Christ who remained by His side and never doubted Him as she accepted and remained to the ultimate end at the cross.

Mary makes a connection between the old testament and the new testament by gifting the world with Jesus Christ. He brings salvation to humankind in the preparation of the incarnation. Therefore, He decides to choose Mary to conceive without the original sin and in the holy state of perpetual virginity and purity in preparation of incarnation in the ultimate sacrifice of the son of God for the salvation. The participation of Mary in the miracle works of Jesus Christ depended on the countless virtues of the divines of Jesus Christ as the only Redeemer. (Morse,7)Therefore Mary participation in the attainment of Redemption and therefore by sharing the mission of Jesus thus her participation built a basis or foundation of the role of the mother of God and her cooperation in bringing Jesus Christ in the world and providing the instrument required to bring Jesus to the world by becoming a vessel that is his body.

Mary's immaculate conception alongside the divine parenthood supports her cooperation to Redemption, the journey, and works of Christ by participating with Christ to crush evil and Redemption of the humankind from sins.

The salvation of Christians is realized at the events that unfold after calvary, and therefore, the contribution of Mary is seen during the crucifixion of Christ. How she portrays her capabilities as a mother, and thus Mary brought about salvation to all humanity by collaborating with Christ and His disciples or subjects.

Mary contributed to salvation by giving birth to Christ, whose destiny was to bring salvation and Redemption to the world by providing basic needs such as food, shelter, and clothing, taking Him the temple. When the time was precise, God sent His son born of a woman that is Mary and was to the world to redeem mankind from their sins for salvation in preparation of the incarnation to be by His sacrifice at the cross.

Mary represented the new eve by becoming a flawless representation of the church as she represents humanity and brings about salvation to humankind. By giving birth to Christ, who would become the Savior of mankind in preparation of Redemption from sins.

Mary proclaims the prospect of humankind cooperating with God as is seen the favor of the Lord is upon her, therefore, facilitating the Redemption of the faithful, thus facilitating the spread of the gospel.
