Introduction
Hello, I hope you are doing great. Marriages are facing some difficulties concerning communication. Additionally, there are several cultures and traditions all over the world that have different ways of living and beliefs. This letter tries to study and analyze the arranged and autonomous marriages in terms of communication, culture, and marital satisfaction to develop, whether there are any differences.
Marriage can be described as the most crucial interpersonal interaction because almost every individual may be married on a given occasion in life. Additionally, it acts as a social institution that may affect the lifestyle of an individual. Once in marriage, it serves as the platform for establishing a family and bring up children because it allows sexual interactions and brings the terms wife and husband (Zaidi & Shuraydi, 2002). Several stages are employed in establishing the marriage; one of these steps includes partner selection. It can be one of the most significant strides in the whole process. Getting the right partner may be challenging and should is useful. The method may involve the parents or the individual wishing to marry and matchmaker.
Communication in marriages is a very significant aspect that needs to be perfect for a secure and excellent marriage. Weak interactions between the couple lead to conflicts that, in turn, cause divorce. There are several types of unions in the traditional and modern cultures-for example, the arranged and autonomous forms of marriages. Autonomous marriage is a marital union where parents or guardians are not involved or have any decision before the wedding (Kline, Zhang, Manohar, Ryu, Suzuki, & Mustafa, 2012). On the other hand, arranged marriage is where the parents select both bride and bridegroom, and this can be the most popular type of union in many traditional cultures. The form of marital union one gets into may have a direct impact on the effectiveness of the communication to be experienced.
In any marital union, some factors matter a lot. Things such as communication, problems, togetherness, and satisfaction can be significant in determining the quality of each wedlock. The above factors are influenced to an exceptional level by spouse choice, gender, and level of education of an individual (Dinna, 2006). On the other, there are some things which people consider relevant, but they do not have any say when it comes to a good marriage. Some of these factors include age, occupation, number of children, and the duration of the wedding itself, and this has very little influence on the quality of marital union. The study paper entails discovering communication via the lines of the autonomous also called love marriage and arranged marriage. The study query to establish any difference that may be present between autonomous and arranged marriages and their influence to effective communication practices. As a requirement the paper will base its argument on marital satisfaction, and marital cultures while relating them to effective communication (Zaidi & Shuraydi, 2002). Additionally, there will be analyzing the two types of union to have a deeper understanding.
As pointed out in the introduction part of the research, arranged marriages and the autonomous. Arranged marriages have been dominant in the middle east, Asia, and Africa, where a significant percentage of marriages are the arranged type. Marital communication varies from one form of union to another, and also the different cultures (Allendorf & Ghimire, 2013). In this type of marriage, the family plays a significant role in the selection of spouses; hence it may lead to some barrier of communication. The interests of the individuals come second after that of the family. As a result, a massive percentage of this union are associated with conflicts. The couples know very little or even nothing about their spouse. With effective communication, couples feel so close to each other. On the contrary, poor communicating skills lead to conflicts among the spouse.
In some instances, the spouse involved is too young to make any formal decision. Study shows that child marriage is widespread in the arranged union where children below twelve years are required. Here the parents arrange a wedding for the young children due to poverty, and this is common in rural areas of Latin America and South of Asia (Dinna, 2006). The children are too young to make any decision or even communicate effectively. Occasionally, wedlock faces several challenges starting domestic violence that, in turn, leads to divorce. However, some find it challenging to leave this kind of marriage to avoid critics from the family members. A study conducted in India in which one of the states with a high percentage of arranged unions shows that there are very few incidences of divorce (Zaidi & Shuraydi, 2002).
Marital satisfaction plays a significant role in ensuring that there is an effective delivery of information in the wedlock. Communication can be crucial in measuring any marital quality. In an arranged marriage, communication, it faces a significant challenge. For example, a study conducted on the youth of Pakistan shows that families control sensitive decisions such as pregnancy (Allendorf & Ghimire, 2013). This will cause some misunderstanding between the wife and husband. Consider a situation where the husband's parents need a child from their son, and the wife is not ready at the moment. There will be some a fight in trying to communicating the information to the wife. Respect is vital in delivering a message to one of the spouses. In the incidence where young children are in wedlock, compliance tends to decline (Dinna, 2006). The main reason is that the young spouse, who are mostly girls, may not be given the much-required respect by the husband, hence no delivering the information effectively.
Understanding plays a crucial role in effective communication under any circumstances. The arranged marriages in the real scenario may find this challenging to achieve. As it is known about the wedding, the spouse is very new to each other and did not have time for dating. Although this type of marriage has been a success in India and several states where it is a common practice, it may be hard for the couple to understand each other (Zaidi & Shuraydi, 2002). The reason for this is that the couples have very little knowledge of each other. To establish quality understanding, there must be some time spent together (Allendorf & Ghimire, 2013). The arranged union may be lacking this quality; hence it can create a barrier when it comes to communication. Additionally, judging each other in the association may be significant in causing a misunderstanding. The study indicates that one spouse may have a negative judgment towards her/his counterpart (Zaidi & Shuraydi, 2002). Hence, they will be concluding getting the main feedback. Developing the response before attaining the primary question leads to the wrong answer that may bring about fights in the family.
In some scenarios, one spouse may find it difficult to establish good conversation due to conflicting ideas. People from different cultural backgrounds may have a diverse perception of life and lifestyle. By trying to transform the colleague as human beings are resistant to any kind of change, may it be positive or negative (Zaidi & Shuraydi, 2002). It takes quality friendship for communication to be active and efficient. In arranged marriages, this may be a challenge, especially where the selected spouse does not develop an excellent friendship; this can be common in cases where one weds a person, he/she does not like.
The autonomous marriage that is also referred to as the love union involves two people falling in love. Here the spouse chose who they want to marry; this form of union is mostly famous in the Western countries (Ciren, Liang, Luo, Xia, Yan, & Yang, 2016). Communication can be measured or examined in several methods. The people in these unions tend to be too close to each other, and this can be a factor in effective communication. Moreover, couples here are more friendly to each other, which brings about effective communication (Zaidi & Shuraydi, 2002). As people go through the process of dating, they come to understand each other well hence creating strong bonds. With well-established relationships, the conflicts may be minimal or even not exist (Dinna, 2006). One of the most significant elements of effective communication is being friendly in response during the conversation, and this is evident in most of the love union. Age also adds some sense when passing information. In most cases, individuals who are involved in autonomous unions are mature in terms of age, and this also contributes positively to any conversation.
Although this form of marital union tends to experience most divorces in the world, it brings about some confidence between the spouse (Ciren et al., 2016). As confidence improves, their mode of communication also increases drastically. Love creates a conducive environment for a couple to share information as they listen to each other. By giving an individual to time and space to explain his/her ideals motivates the person, and this is a common characteristic in autonomous union (Dinna, 2006). They create not only significant interaction between the spouse but also prevent unnecessary arguments in the family. It is a tradition for the couple to have been together before going into a legal marriage. Therefore, they have enough knowledge about each other, and this can be a way of developing a healthy relationship. In the recent past, autonomous marriage is becoming familiar to some states which were known for an arranged marriage.
Conflicts are frequent in marriages, and this includes all the cultures and traditions available in the world. Marital satisfaction may be the cause of fights and misunderstanding in any marriage (Zaidi & Shuraydi, 2002). Marital satisfaction involves all the benefits an individual gets as a result of being in the union. Additionally, it also defines the quality of marriage of the couples. Arranged marriages are mostly established based on the assumption that young people can wake wise decisions when it comes to selecting marriage partners. It sometimes brings positive feedback as many marriages in this form of a union are powerful. Study indicates that India faces minimal cases of divorce; in fact, it is estimated that only seven percent of divorce cases happen (Ciren et al., 2016). The relationship developed by the parents or guardians is significant in making the unions a success.
Arranged unions have a history of being successful in the Eastern and some parts of Africa. Additionally, arranged marriages tend to more satisfying than love unions; this can connect to the fact that love grows in time (Zaidi & Shuraydi, 2002). Moreover, where the parents search for the matchmaker, the individuals find it challenging to file a divorce to avoid frustrating their parents. Even if it was hard at the beginning, they learn to hold on and finally create excellent bonds with the spouse presented to them. The reason for this that they have a very high percentage of marital satisfaction that ensures the couples are stable. Here the vocation of the candidates is vital, and love is not the primary factor of qualifying. Hence the potential spouse is closely monitored before settling for the final one; thus, this minimizes the probability of making mistakes.
Arranged marriages may have some shortcomings as well as advantages. The fact that there are several cultural norms brings some difficulties in the union. People find it difficult to change their way o...
