Introduction
I want to major in television and film. As a consequentialist, who is an egoist and utilitarian, my choice of the major have been affected by the many benefits that I believe come with it. I believe that majoring in television and film would allow me to reach and help many people by being at the forefront of news production later in life. Therefore, due to the idea of helping people through the provision of quality news, my major has been affected. Therefore, as an egoist, assisting people by presenting them with accurate news would be helpful to me too as I could earn more as modern television presenters and filmmakers earn.
I want to spend my money in a manner that is beneficial to me. For instance, I would like to make investments that could earn me a living in future. Spending most of my money would, in fact, not be directed towards getting fun. Instead, I would direct most of my cash to investments. As a utilitarian, I believe that it is only needful for me to spend my money which in the end would be beneficial to me. I would consider spending my money, for instance, to buy myself a home in a silent locality where there is peace and where I am at peace. I am interested in living in an area that is convenient for my need in the idea that it would be peaceful, which a positive consequence.
My stand as a consequentialist would affect the way I behave towards my neighbours, respond to world events and my romantic life also. Consequentialism as well-understood is a normative ethic that dwells on the result of an action (Nwadiugwu, 2015). Therefore, based on this ideal, I would treat my neighbours in the best way. The reason I would treat my neighbours well is so they would see me as a good neighbour, and they would also treat me respectfully. To world events, I would react with some level of disconnection. As an egoist, and in my position, I understand that I have minimal effect on the events of the world. Based on the idea that my input is meaningless, I would be disconnected to most world events. I would consider that the principle would be helpful in my romantic life. It would allow me to treat my partner well. However, the principle could easily make me leave any relationship where the treatment is not reciprocated.
I would consider that my perspective as a consequentialist would affect the number of kids I would like to have, my eating habits, involvement in the community, the car I would drive and my political divide. Egoists believe that as long as the action is good to the person who carries it out, it is right. On the other hand, utilitarian people also think that an action is right if at all, it is good for everybody (Nwadiugwu, 2015). Therefore, I would like to have two to three children whom I can manage without straining or having to harm their lives. I would only ear what is enough for me to reduce wastage. I would be involved in community matters to ensure that I live in a community with which I am connected and can gain as much as I learn from them. I would also drive a modest car that serves my transport needs. Lastly, I would choose the political divide that best serves me and the majority of the members of society.
Conclusion
Being an egoist and still utilitarian would have such an immense impact on my life entirely. It would affect my choice of television and film studies as my majors. It would make me spend sparingly with much of my cash going to investments. It would also make me seek life in a pleasant and peaceful neighbourhood. I would be a little disconnected to world events, have a strong romantic life, have two or three children, eat only what is enough for me and be involved in community events as well as drive a modest car and choose the political divide that serves me and the majority of the people right. My life would, therefore, be one that is based on the benefitting outcomes of every one of my actions.
